Year 7 & 8 Sub-School News

Assistant Principal's Report

It has been a very full and energetic Term One, and once again, I’m incredibly impressed by the high level of participation from our Year 7 and 8 students, in lunchtime clubs, Homework Club after school, and most recently, at the Athletics Carnival. Their enthusiasm and involvement continue to enrich our school community.

In our Wellbeing program, students in Years 7 and 8 have been focusing on the themes of Gratitude and Empathy. One simple way to support this learning at home is by trying the Family Habit Builder. Each family member takes a moment to express gratitude to someone else for something kind or helpful they’ve done during the week. It’s a powerful way to build connection and reflect on the positive moments in our daily lives.

Congratulations to all students on completing their first round of Learning Tasks. We’re looking forward to connecting with families at the upcoming Parent-Student-Teacher Conferences (PTSC). We encourage students to attend these conferences with their families, whether online or in person, so they can take an active role in their own learning journey.

We wish everyone a restful and refreshing holiday break, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday 22 April. With Anzac Day falling on Friday 25 April, the three day week will provide a gentle start to Term Two.

Year 7 Issue 2 Year 7 2025

As we approach the end of Term One, we would like to take a moment to celebrate the achievements of our Year 7 students. This marks the completion of their very first Term at secondary school, and we couldn’t be prouder of how well they’ve adjusted. Their growth, resilience, and enthusiasm for learning have made this Term a fantastic start to their secondary school journey. Well done, Year 7!

A Busy Term of Learning and Assessments

It’s been an eventful Term filled with exciting learning opportunities. Our Year 7 students have engaged in a variety of subjects, with the focus this Term on building confidence and skills, and we are impressed with how they’ve embraced the challenges.

PSTCs are a chance for you to engage with your child’s teachers and gain valuable feedback on their learning. We strongly encourage all families to attend these conferences to ensure a strong partnership between home and school.

In addition to the PSTCs, students have already received feedback on their assessments and learning tasks. This feedback is crucial for helping students understand their strengths and areas for growth. We encourage students to use this feedback to guide their continued growth and development.

Year 7 Sport Day

A highlight of the term was the Year 7 Sport Day, where students had the chance to showcase their athletic abilities and compete against other schools. It was a day filled with excitement, team spirit, and great sportsmanship.

As parents, you can also expect regular updates on your child’s progress throughout the term. If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teachers.

Looking ahead to Term Two, we’re excited to continue supporting our Year 7 students. Thank you for your ongoing support in helping to make this term a successful one!

Wishing everyone a well deserved break, and we look forward to seeing you all back for Term Two!

Sports, Spirit, and Celebrations!

It has been an action packed few weeks in Year 8 with students showcasing their skills, enthusiasm, and teamwork across various events.

Aussie Icons Take Over Athletics Day!

Our Athletics Day was a fantastic display of school spirit, with students embracing the “Aussie Icons” theme in creative and colourful ways! From legendary athletes to classic Aussie characters, the costumes were as impressive as the performances on the track and field. It was great to see so many students giving their all in events, cheering on their peers, and making the day a true celebration of participation and teamwork.

Year 8 Sports Day Success

Our Year 8 students brought their best to Sports Day last Friday, demonstrating skills and determination across volleyball, cricket, and tennis. Whether they were serving up aces, smashing sixes, or setting up the perfect spike, their efforts were commendable. In cricket, the girls played two matches and won both, qualifying for the next round. In volleyball A Team remained undefeated after defeating each school in the competition. Their last match against Brunswick to qualify for the next round came down to the wire, with MGC coming out on top! Well done to all that participated. There was great feedback surrounding how the girls conducted themselves on the day.

Year 8 End of Term Assembly

To wrap up the term, our Year 8 students gathered for a special End-of-Term Assembly, celebrating their achievements in and out of the classroom. We recognized students for excellent behaviour, outstanding attendance, and the “Stars of the Term”. A huge congratulations to those who received awards! A special mention also goes to the talented students who took part in the Chinese Poster Competition, impressing everyone with their creativity and effort.

A big thank you to all students and staff for their contributions to these events. We look forward to even more exciting opportunities next term!
