English

Our new Year 7 students have been working hard on their persuasive speaking tasks, covering a wide range of topics from the importance of learning other languages to deforestation, and even why recess should be longer! They’ve also used and developed their English skills to develop their Geography and other work. Showing the value of literacy across the curriculum.
The Year 8 students have been covering the Medieval World, developing an understanding of the Black Death and daily life in Medieval Europe. These talks have shown how much their public speaking skills have improved since Year 7. Well done Year 8s!
The whole of Year 9 have been writing their essays, the first for the year! All focussed on the novel under study, Purple Threads. They’ve all used it as a springboard to look at a variety of issues in Australian life, as well as working on their development of their expressive and linguistic skills. There’s also some amazing work coming out of the 9 Writing Now class. Both writing about, and presenting what they’ve written.
In the more senior end of the school students have been working on their understanding of a variety of subjects, from the bold statements of Talking Back, to the way women interact with the world at large. Meanwhile the VCE students have been working hard on Literature, English Language, their EAL studies and finally, mainstream English. All of them about to, or have just done a SAC on a variety of topics, from text study, language formation and presentation, to the intricacies of literary forms.
