Marching Forward – Celebrating Voices and Achievements

As we reach the final week of Term One, I want to take a moment to reflect on the energy, commitment, and achievements that have shaped the term.

Congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 9 students for the focused and considered way they approached NAPLAN. These assessments are just one measure of progress, and we acknowledge all students for giving their best effort.

This term has also been rich with co-curricular highlights. Our whole college came together for an exciting and successful Athletics Carnival on Tuesday 25 March. It was an event filled with colour, spirit, and strong participation.

Our AAFC Cadets had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2025 Avalon Air Show, a unique and memorable experience that no doubt sparked inspiration and pride.

Our rowing program continues to shine, with strong performances at the Head of the Schoolgirls’ Regatta in Geelong a couple of weeks ago, and most recently, our senior rowers representing MGC at the National Rowing Championships in Tasmania over the most recent weekend. These achievements are a testament to the students’ commitment, teamwork, and resilience.

Throughout the term, we have also embraced and competed in a number of interschool sporting competitions across Years 7 to 12. Participation and inclusion have been our key objectives, and it has been wonderful to see so many students engaging with enthusiasm and school pride.

A significant moment in the term was our celebration of International Women’s Day on Thursday 6 March. The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 was March Forward, reminding us that progress towards gender equality must be both intentional and relentless. At Melbourne Girls’ College, we marked the day through a range of activities across year levels and curriculum areas. A special highlight was our International Women’s Day Breakfast, where we proudly celebrated the achievements of three inspiring Alumni who shared their journeys and insights with our school community.

Looking ahead, we have our MGC Public Reporting Meeting scheduled for Tuesday 22 April. During this event, we will present our 2024 Annual Report to the college community. The Annual Report provides us with an opportunity to share our achievements and progress, reflect on our performance, and explain the impact of our improvement efforts on student outcomes.

Communication is such a critical element to our successful partnerships and as a college we strive to connect with our students, parents and carers, families, and the community regularly. We will continue reach out to you with regular compass newsfeeds, emails, and text messages. We also encourage you to visit our website and follow our social pages including Facebook and Instagram, for announcements, information, and celebrations.

I wish all families and students a safe and relaxing break, and we look forward to an exciting Term Two.
