Principal's News

This year, Easter falls at the end of the school holidays, making it harder for us to share its important message with our students. As a Catholic school, Easter is our most sacred and significant celebration. The story of Jesus’ resurrection is one of hope and renewal—reminding us of the promise of a brighter future.
This message of hope aligns beautifully with the role of educators. At its core, education is about investing in the future, shaping the adults of tomorrow, and helping to build a better world.
For Catholics, Easter begins on Palm Sunday and continues through Holy Thursday and Good Friday—our holiest day—before culminating in the joy of Easter Sunday.
I wish you all a happy and holy Easter. May this time with your family be special, filled with love, reflection, and joy.
Have a wonderful holiday and I look forward to seeing you next term!
Tuckshop Help
Thank you to the amazing parents and carers who assisted in the Tuck Shop in Term 1, 2025. A massive call out to all the new Tuck shop helpers. The students appreciated being able to purchase snacks and refreshing treats. It was incredible to be able to open the Tuck Shop almost every day in Term 1. Your time has been much appreciated.
This is the new survey to gauge support for the Tuck Shop in Term 2 - Tuck Shop Survey for Term 2, 2025. Tuckshop will be open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in Term 2.
Please complete this survey by Tuesday 1st April so that the next roster can be created and shared for the beginning of Term 2.
Thank you to the PFA for your ongoing work especially Fiona, Suzanne and Joanne.
MACS CODE OF CONDUCT
In each Newsletter I will highlight ways we bring this vision to life -
Welcoming everyone (Staff, Students, Parents, Carers and Clergy) in the morning either at the gate, at the office window, opening the door for them, on the phone or as they make their way in the classroom. It does not cost much but it makes such a difference to hear a happy voice when we arrive at school! Please give us feedback on this one!
Canberra Camp
The Year 5 and 6 students accompanied by Eva Tomazos, Lil Cesarin, Fiona George and myself will be visiting Canberra from Tuesday 22nd of April till 24th of April. We are looking forward to this learning experience!
Mr Con will be the contact person at school supported by Miss Sienna Montalto.
Any students who are not attending Canberra Camp are expected to attend school and designated work will be allocated for the three days. Students will be allocated a teacher and a learning space.
St Patrick’s Day Mass at the Cathedral
The Year 6 Student Leaders represented St Kevin’s at the Annual Catholic Education Week St. Patrick’s Day Mass. Our four School Captains Keizen and Arianna along with our Deputy Captains Mya and Jonathan accompanied by Mrs Tomazos joined many other Primary and Secondary students from all around the Archdiocese of Melbourne to celebrate Mass with Archbishop Peter Comensoli. We have much to be proud of being a small yet important part of the Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS).
Easter Reenactment
Holy Week is a sacred time in our Church’s calendar. It is a time we are invited to remember Jesus’ final days before he died on the cross. It is also a time to reflect on the mystery of God’s love, and how much God loves each of us.
Liturgies will be held to remember each event.
The Easter reenactment will take place on Thursday 3rd of April at 9:30am. This will commence on the deck outside the Performing Arts Room.
Easter: The Resurrection (Tuesday 29th April @ 2.45pm in the church) ALLELUIA! He has risen (Year 1 and 2)
Parish Levy
A Parish Levy, currently $160, is charged per family each year to support the work of our Parish. This Levy also assists with the maintenance of the Parish Property on which the school is situated.
This is to be paid directly to the Parish Office.
What does the parish do?
- Students learn about faith through the sacraments (reconciliation, first eucharist and confirmation). Our sacramental program is friendly, accessible and inclusive.
- Special masses for the school children (such as Ash Wednesday, feast days, grandparents' day, graduation, school masses). Special celebrations for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
- Resources for religious education.
- Question and Answers sessions with Fr Charles in the classroom.
- Social justice program (eg. Fire Carriers, blankets for the homeless, Christmas hampers for the needy).
- Youth Group.
- Play Group.
How do children and families benefit?
- The children soak up Catholic values (dignity of every person, social justice, service for others and care for our environment) based on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
- Catholic values bring about belonging, support and connection in the school community.
- Our faith is the glue that holds us together as a community. It gives meaning and purpose to our life.
We need your help
For many years, school families supported the parish through the collection at Sunday Mass. Now, this is rare.
The parish runs like any small business. It must be self-sufficient. It receives no funding from other organizations (such as the Vatican or the Melbourne Archdiocese). We need your support to ensure our parish remains financially sustainable now and in the future.
We are asking you for a voluntary contribution of $160 per year. Over 40 weeks of the school year, this averages $4 a week. It makes a big difference to the parish.
Please think seriously about assisting our parish by making the $160 contribution. I was proud to see that we had 10 families contribute last year and I have strong hope that we can double the contributions this year.
Thank you to the wonderful families who donated in 2024. Your kind donations assists in many ways.
