Trafalgar Primary Wins School Sport Victoria School of the Year
Trafalgar Primary School has been named the School Sport Victoria School of the Year, recognising our outstanding commitment to school sport, inclusivity, and community partnerships.
Building on our 2023 Victorian School Sport Award for Outstanding School and Community Partnerships, our school reached new heights in 2024, recording a record-breaking 764 student-participation-events in interschool sport. This growth led to the formation of our first-ever AFL Girls team, the revival of competitive school hockey after 12 years, and strong performances at regional and state levels in football, volleyball, tennis, downball, and NFL Flag.
A key driver of this success has been our strategic partnerships with AFL Victoria, Cricket Victoria, Hockey Victoria, Cycling Australia, and Disability Sport and Recreation, all of which have expanded student participation and enhanced sporting experiences. Programs such as After School Auskick and Cricket Blast have significantly boosted engagement in sport, while the WheelTalk wheelchair basketball program introduced students to adaptive sports, and reinforced our school’s commitment to inclusion and diversity. Additionally, collaborations with Rhee Taekwondo, Leongatha Gymnastics Club, and Trafalgar’s football, netball, cricket, tennis, croquet, golf and soccer clubs have further strengthened opportunities for our students.
As we celebrate this award, it is important to recognise that this achievement was only possible because of the hard work and dedication of so many people:
Winning this award is something we should all be proud of, as it reinforces our reputation for excellence, inclusivity, and lifelong participation while we continue to set the benchmark for outstanding school sport through high-quality programs and strong community partnerships.
Outstanding Results at District Athletics!
Trafalgar Primary School athletes shone at the 2025 District Athletics competition, bringing home an impressive collection of ribbons across multiple events. Our students demonstrated skill, determination, and sportsmanship, achieving fantastic results on the track and field. Congratulations to all our competitors for their hard work and effort.

All students who placed 1st or 2nd in their events have now qualified for the Divisional Athletics competition, which is currently scheduled to take place on Monday 5 May. Trafalgar Students Take on the West Gippsland Tennis Cup
On Wednesday, 26 March 2025, five talented Trafalgar Primary School students—Willow M, Jaxon B, Oscar B, James B, and Roy W—took to the courts at the West Gippsland Schools Tennis Cup in Drouin. Competing against students from across the division, our players showcased fantastic skill, sportsmanship, and determination in this highly competitive event.
The tournament, which serves as a qualifier for the Gippsland Schools Tennis Cup Championship, saw our students' playing singles matches under a fast-paced format. All participants displayed great resilience, stepping up to umpire their own matches and embracing the challenge of competitive play.
We are incredibly proud of our students for representing Trafalgar Primary School with such enthusiasm. A big thank you to the parents and guardians who supported the event by providing transport and supervision.
It's been a great start to the year in Music.
In classes we have had a hands-on term playing and exploring musical instruments and instrument families.
We have had some great assembly performances.
Instrumental music is rolling along well. Unfortunately, we are losing Laura in term 2 but I have 2 teachers replacing her that will cover her students without disruption.
Choir is going well, and we are planning an assembly performance in Term 2.
And students have enjoyed coming into the music room at lunchtime to rehearse, sing karaoke, play electric drums and guitars, or generally just have a great time surrounded by music.
Here are some photos of Term 1 music.
Mr Allan
Thank you to all students and staff for a wonderful first term in STEM.
I hope my amazing Biologists have enjoyed our lessons this term. I look forward to studying Chemistry with you next term!
This week was all about camouflage. All students did a fantastic job of hiding their butterflies in plain sight in the STEM room and in their classrooms for their teachers to find!
Yours in STEM education,
Mrs B.
It has been wonderful to welcome students and families back to Breakfast Club this term! We have had so many students visit us in the mornings for delicious toasties, cereals and milos to help kick start their learning day. We are so thankful for the many generous food donations provided by the community and from our sponsors - Foodbank, IGA Trafalgar, Bakers Delight Mid Valley and Gracie’s Bakery.
Due to these donations, Breakfast Club continues to be able to support families through the provision of Care Packages. We remind families that our Traf Pantry can be found in the Gym Foyer and continues to be stocked with many excellent products, available to anyone - and they’re free! If you would like to receive a Care Package or know of a family who may benefit, feel free to drop into our School Office, see Mrs Burns or Mrs Marslen.
Donations of Jam and Milo needed, please!
Thank you again to all families who have generously donated tins of Milo to our Breakfast Club. Any extra donations of Milo, as well as jam would be greatly appreciated to support our school community!
Looking forward to seeing you for brekky in Term 2!

What a wonderful start to the 2024 year we have had with our Junior School Council team.
Already we have had fundraisers to raise money for the Children's Tumour Foundation and the Good Friday Appeal, with proceeds going to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne. Thank you to all of our students and families for supporting these charities with a gold coin donation.
Yesterday it was a sea of colour and creativity looking at all of the Easter hats at our Easter hat parade, what a wonderful way to finish off Term 1!! We raised $171 which will be donated to the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal.
This week sees the last week of the current term for the 2024 Junior School Councillors. They have been a wonderful group of students, who have taken on their responsibilities with humour, maturity, enthusiasm and great initiative. Thank you to each and every one of you. You have been a delight to work with!
Exciting times are ahead as we announced at the last assembly the new junior school councillors. This year we had over 40 students apply to be junior school councillors, which is absolutely incredible!
Congratulations to Tiffany Corbett, Yasmine Mynard, Remi Jennings, Oliver Stephenson, Oliver O’Donnell, Isla Coffey, Dakoda McPhail, Erin Gerlach, Myah Wyatt, Ollie Paynter, Skylar Brownbill, Connor McIntosh, Libby Blake, Paige Mynard, Layla Robertson, Lola Bannister, Mabel Brain, Quinn Rudy, Jack Van Boven, Havana Brown, Sophie Malady, Lyla Payze and Ivy Lynch.
This year we also have a subcommittee, who will be called upon when junior school councillors are absent or when we need ‘extra hands-on deck’ for some of our fundraising activities, like our whole school colour run.
Our subcommittee members are Ellyra Jennings, Ashlee Merrigan, Emily Baker, Eliza Jacovou, Addison Barry, Ivy Vernon, Maya O’Dwyer, Mila Burrows, Porscha Lee,
Veronica Van Dyk, Marlee Loft, Georgia Jacovou and Safira Rozet.
I am very excited to work alongside and with all of you, congratulations on your appointment!
Term two will be another busy term. We have two fundraisers planned. Dolly’s Dream on Friday 9th of May, this is when our community comes together to spread kindness and unite in breaking the silence around bullying.
The second fundraiser is to raise money for Heartkids. This organisation is a not-for-profit organisation that assist families that have children with Congenital Heart Disease, among other heart conditions. They assist families with weekly morning teas and chats, to giving tickets to families to go to events and provide food and fuel vouchers for the rural families travelling to and from appointments.
Thank you again to our school community for your continued support of the fundraisers organised by our junior school council members.
Enjoy your Easter holidays and stay safe!
