Around the School

Prep H

This week, Prep H students have been learning how to partition numbers through hands-on activities. Using colourful two-sided counters, they played the Shake and Spill game, where they shook a set number of counters in a cup, spilled them onto a plate and counted how many landed on each colour. Students then recorded their results in a table, discovering different ways to make the same number. The hands-on activity helped students develop a stronger understanding of number combinations and early addition concepts. It was wonderful to see the excitement as they discovered multiple ways to make the same number!

2LM

2LM have had a GREAT start to Term 2. In English we are exploring imaginative texts and in the coming weeks we will present a character description in front of our peers. In Maths our focus is on Measurement, and we had a lot of fun making analog clocks to help with our understanding of concepts related to Time. Many students attended the Anzac Day March to show their respect for those who have served in Wars.

YEAR 3

The Year 3's had a fantastic day visiting Darling Downs Zoo and learning all about the animals.

4S

Over Semester 1 (Term 1 & 2), 4S has been studying magazine covers, design elements and how to plan/design our own magazine cover through Media Arts. We got creative using Canva this term to bring our plans to life. And … they look amazing!!  The students all did extremely well with learning how to use this new software too.

6PT

6PT have hit the ground running this term.  In Maths we are busy working on Statistical Investigations with our amazing Pre-Service Teacher, Miss Annie Hulme.  Our lessons are collaborative and hands on, which we really enjoy. To consolidate our understanding of the new concepts we have learnt we have been participating in Investigations and regular small group activities.  Our Maths Rotations also include consolidation of previous content and games and activities to promote strategic and critical thinking.

Flying Scientists Visit

Gundy State was lucky enough to be offered a free Science incursion last term in Week 10 for our Year 4-6 students. Real-life scientists, Dr Anna Churscik, Dr Colleen Hunt and Young Science Ambassador Pippa Pryor, from the Wonder of Science: Flying Scientists team attended. They engaged students in an investigation on how to extract DNA from a strawberry as well as discussed genetics and their career paths in the respective fields of science. What a wonderful opportunity to provide real-life science application to our students!
