PBL Lessons

Week 1 and 2 - Rules and Routines

Week 3 - Using the high 5

Week 4 - Personal Space

Week 5 - How big is my problem

What is PBL?

PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning — a whole-school approach that promotes a safe, respectful, and positive learning environment by teaching and reinforcing expected behaviours. PBL creates a consistent, positive school culture, improves student behaviour and wellbeing, enhances engagement and academic outcomes and builds stronger student-teacher relationships

Key Elements

  • Clear behaviour expectations are defined, taught, and displayed (We use GREAT expectations)
  • Positive reinforcement is used to acknowledge and reward students who demonstrate expected behaviours.
  • Data is used to monitor progress and guide school-wide improvements.

What Your Child is Learning?

We teach students specific behaviours just like academic skills. For example:

  • How to enter a classroom quietly and prepared
  • How to solve conflicts respectfully
  • How to follow routines independently

How Positive Behaviour is Reinforced

  • Verbal praise
  • Dots
  • Whole class rewards
  • Dot Days
  • Weekly “Star of the Week”

How Parents Can Support?

  • Talk to your child about the school’s expectations.
  • Reinforce positive behaviour at home with praise and routines.
  • Stay in touch with your child’s teacher for updates.
  • Celebrate your child’s achievements, no matter how small.

Dot Day Celebration

The students had a fantastic afternoon at the end of term 1 celebrating Dot Day. How does "Dot Day" work.... students are rewarded with dots throughout the term for their positive behaviour and then have the opportunity to use their dots to select a fun activity at the end of term.

Respectful Relationships Education

Respect Education Queensland – Building a Safe and Supportive School Community

As part of our commitment to student wellbeing, our school continues to participate in the Respect Education. These lessons help children develop the knowledge and skills to build respectful relationships, understand personal safety, and promote a safe and inclusive school environment.

Key focus areas include:

  • Respectful Relationships: Learning how to treat others with kindness, fairness, and empathy.
  • Personal Boundaries: Understanding safe and unsafe behaviours and how to speak up.
  • Online Safety: Encouraging respectful communication and safety in digital spaces.
  • Emotional Regulation: Helping students recognise and manage their feelings in healthy ways.
  • Seeking Help: Teaching children how and when to ask for help from trusted adults.

These lessons are age-appropriate and align with the Australian Curriculum. They’re delivered in a supportive environment, encouraging children to share and reflect respectfully.

Mrs Pauline Clyne from the Goondiwindi Photography Club, presenting our winners and highly commended with their photo's today. Lucy Gates was our overall winner (Mrs Clarke holding Lucy's winning photograph) but was unable to make todays assembly. Thank you to Mrs Clyne for judging the competition.

Mrs Clynes Top tips for taking a great photo...

  • When shooting a landscape work to keep the horizon straight
  • Lock your focus before you press your shutter key to keep the image sharp
  • Taking photos in low light requires a very steady hand to stop camera shake which can blur your image. To help avoid this find a steady object to rest your camera on.

Miss Casey Simpson and Mrs Donna Norman will be teaching Playgroup this term.

Wednesdays 9am to 10:30am. Follow the Red Flags at the Prep Precinct. Bring your GREAT Mates hat, morning tea and a water bottle (and a parent)!!

Playgroup supports children and families to build relationships, skills and confidence through play. All welcome.

LATELY AT GREAT MATES....

It's been a busy few weeks full of creativity at Playgroup. We've looked at ANZAC Day, The Show (including Miss Simpson the Clown) and of course Mother's Day. So much fun making fireworks pictures and playing in sideshow alley, making clown shoes and circus elephants. Oh, and POPCORN. For mum we got creative and made our own little posey of flowers and sparkly suncatchers.

The Month of May is actually MESSY PLAY MONTH so dress accordingly this month because Miss Simpson and Mrs Norman are planning some fun and MESSY activities throughout the rest of the month!
