St Brigid's News and Events

News from Foundation
Wow! What a busy term we have had in Foundation - we can’t believe we are already one quarter of the way through our first year of school, and almost halfway to our 100 days!
We have now learnt 16 different sounds for reading, and are able to read and spell so many words. In Maths we have learnt the days of the week and times of the day, how to create and follow repeating patterns, how to write the numbers 0-10 and express these numbers in lots of different ways, and how to use words like ‘under’ ‘on top’ and ‘beside’ to describe location. During Inquiry we explored personal strengths and how people in our community use their strengths to help us, we even had a visit from Firefighter Nate and Seargent Burnham. We have also explored important concepts for our Catholic faith like who God and Jesus are, and how we pray. Father Andrew came to talk to us about how we are part of the St Brigid’s church community. Through our health unit we have talked a lot about ‘eating the rainbow’ to ensure we are getting all the vitamins we need to grow strong - yesterday we completed this unit by trying our own fruit and vegetable rainbow, trying some new foods and seeing what they look, feel, smell and taste like.
We have enjoyed participating in lots of special school activities for the first time - including walking to Mass, participating in assemblies, sharing a weekend Mass with our families, cross country, whole school incursion with NEDS, and presenting at our first Celebration of Learning.
Some of the students favourite things so far have been:
Alice: Learning new things.
Amber: Friday because it’s tuck shop day.
Ben: Playing on the playground.
Caden: Walking to church.
Cleo: Meeting all the animals in Little Learners.
Darcy: Lunch time.
Elizabeth: Going to the library.
Eva: Looking around the whole school.
Finn: Doing fine motor activities.
Hamish: Playing in the playground.
Jasmine: Playing.
Jordan: School photos.
Jude: Meeting Ben Bear in Little Learners.
Lucas: Playing outside.
Maddie: Playing outside.
Maks: The Police Officer visiting.
Oliver: Having a brain break and doing a lap.
Sam: Playing on the playground.
Sophia: Looking around the art room.
Xavier: Art lessons.

Zeruiah: Doing super spelling.
I am so proud of how much the Foundation class has achieved over their first term, and can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings.

Hot Cross Buns
A BIG thank you to all the St Brigid's Families who purchased hot crossbuns and to our Foundation Mum's who helped pack and distribute our order yesterday. Ryan at Baker's Delight Mordialloc had to cook 100 x 1/2 dozen hot cross buns just for St Brigid's! Thank you to Ryan and his team - that's a great $200 donation to our school.
