Celebrating Excellence: High Ability Enrichment at Lara Secondary College
At Lara Secondary College, we take great pride in fostering a culture of academic excellence, providing high-ability students with opportunities to extend their learning. Our Enrichment Program supports students across all year levels with advanced and challenging content, preparing them for early entry into VCE in Year 10.
In addition to the opportunities provided by the program, we are thrilled to highlight the achievements of seven of our students who are currently participating in the Victorian High Ability Program (VHAP). Three students have taken on the challenge of higher-level mathematical concepts, strengthening their problem-solving and analytical skills. Four students are excelling in Advanced English, refining their critical thinking, writing, and analytical abilities. Their dedication and enthusiasm are truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing them continue to thrive in their learning journeys!
Applications Open for the 2025 Year 7 Enrichment Program
We are excited to welcome future high-achieving students into our Year 7 Enrichment Program in 2025! The Enrichment Program at Lara Secondary College is a selective entry program designed to challenge and support high-achieving students in reaching their full potential.
To gain entry, students need to sit for the Higher Ability Selection Test (HAST), developed by the Australian Council for Educational Research, which will be held at the school. This is a fantastic opportunity for young learners to challenge themselves, engage with advanced content, and become part of a supportive, high-achieving academic community.
📅 Registration Closes: 8th April
Don’t miss out! Register today to secure your place.

Lara Secondary Athletics Carnival
At the Athletics Carnival, the year 12s, once again, had some awesome costumes: the bananas, Alice in Wonderland characters, Shrek, Fiona, Barbie, all of the Mario Karts, and who could forget the inflatable animals.
The sun came out again for us with students running, jumping or throwing within the different track and field events. Almost all students participated in our novelty events, including the annual Tug of War.
The Tug of War held a few face offs until the play off for 1st place began: Flinders versus Hovell. And, Hovell (maybe with the help of You Yangs) came out victorious! Then a new showdown occurred: the Staff versus the Rugby Academy. Initially, the rugby guys had it, but the staff held their ground. After what felt like an eternity of tugging the rope back and forth, the staff won!!
Unfortunately the staff victories didn’t last for too long, as Pak Walker, Mr. Hackett, Ms. Pitcher and Mr. St Pierre ran the 4x100m relay against the 4 houses, and came last :(
The staff will have to come back faster next year!
The results were:
1st - You Yangs (2,169 points)
2nd - Flinders (2,017 points)
3rd - Hovells (1,761 points)
4th - Serendip (1,508 points)
The students also had some awesome achievements, in particular Jarvis Burley who made a 2.00m high jump, beating his previous PB by 6cm. Nearly 80 students including Jarvis have qualified for the Bellarine Division Athletics taking place early next term. Good luck to all competitors!
