School Athletics Carnival
I hope you are all looking forward to our Athletics Carnival next Monday 17th March (back-up Day 25th March), at Moonee Ponds Athletics Track, Aberfeldie Park.
All children (Year Prep - Year 6) will be transported by bus and will return around 1:30 pm.
Buses will be leaving at 9:10 am (sharp) so please have your children at school on time.
Children will eat lunch upon their return to school.
Children will need to:
Wear their sports uniform and wear a T-shirt of their team’s colour
Bring a refillable water bottle
Bring play lunch (please pack an extra ‘something’ as the children will not be having lunch until they return to school)
Bring a small backpack to put everything in
Have an extra-large breakfast!
We will also need several parents to volunteer to assist with events so please indicate your availability on the Operoo Form. Parents will be contacted before the day confirming your attendance. Please note volunteers MUST have an up-to-date WWCC.
Our Athletics Carnival is always a lot of fun so let's hope the weather is kind to us.
World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated on 21 March each year. This year at Corpus Christi, we will celebrate this day on Thursday 20 March. As a school we will use the Lots of Socks theme created by Down Syndrome International and celebrate World Down Syndrome Day.
On this day, we ask that your child wear socks of their choice to school. They can be bright, colourful, short or long, the choice is endless! During the day, we will be discussing what makes us all unique as well as Down syndrome. We will talk about inclusion and how we can all help each other to feel included.
Finally, we will be carrying out a creative writing or drawing piece on what makes us unique and what Down syndrome is.
Please find below a brief definition of Down syndrome as a reference, should you want to discuss the day with your child. Down syndrome is a genetic condition – it is not an illness or disease. It occurs because of an extra chromosome. Our bodies are made up of millions of cells. There are 23 pairs of chromosomes, or 46 chromosomes, in every cell. Down syndrome is caused by the occurrence of an extra chromosome, chromosome 21. (Down syndrome is also known as trisomy 21.) People with Down syndrome then have 47 chromosomes in their cells instead of 46. This results in a range of physical characteristics, health and development indications and some level of intellectual disability. Down syndrome is usually recognisable at birth and confirmed by a blood test. It was named after Dr John Langdon Down who first described it. Although we know how Down syndrome happens, we do not yet know why it happens.
Down syndrome occurs at conception, across all ethnic and social groups and to parents of all ages. It is nobody’s fault, there is no cure and it does not go away. People with Down syndrome may find doing some activities more challenging but, just like everyone else, people with Down syndrome will continue to learn, and are good at some things and not others. We look forward to celebrating World Down Syndrome Day together as a school.

National Ride2School Day
Corpus Christi is registered for National Ride2School Day and we hope that you will join more than 350,000 students across the nation who will ride, walk, scoot and skate to school on Friday 21st March 2025.
We will have a National Ride2School Day local start point. If everyone heads to the bike track next to the Kingsville Tennis Club at Hansen Reserve - 37 Wattle St, West Footscray at 8:30am, we can all head in together. Note: this is not an official CCK supervised event, if you are planning on taking part you will need to be there to supervise your child/children or organised care.
