RULER Program: RULER Student Ambassadors

On Friday 28 February, the 2025 RULER Student Ambassadors were presented with their certificates. These students have demonstrated a strong commitment to emotional intelligence, and they will play a key role in fostering a positive and supportive school environment. As ambassadors, they will help promote the RULER approach, lead by example, and support their peers in developing essential social-emotional skills. Congratulations to the ambassadors.

Prep Art | KANDINSKY CONCENTRIC CIRCLES

In the 'Kandinsky Concentric Circles: Colour and Shape' art unit, Prep students explore the vibrant abstract art of Wassily Kandinsky, focusing on his use of shapes and colour. They create their own collage artwork using concentric circles, experimenting with warm and cool colours to layer and contrast. Students practise identifying shapes and colours (warm and cool, and primary and secondary) in their environment. They have the opportunity to share their creations with the class, discuss their artistic choices, and reflect on their process.

Year 1 | ELMER THE ELEPHANT

In the 'Elmer the Elephant: Line and Colour' unit, Year 1 students explore the art of illustrator Matt Spinks, known for his bold, patterned illustrations. Inspired by Spinks's intricate line work, students created an abstract drawing of Elmer the Elephant, focusing on black line patterns and Elmer’s colourful patchwork design. Using fine-tipped markers, students added unique patterns to Elmer’s body and then brought their artwork to life with vibrant colours. This unit encourages creativity, pattern-making and colour exploration, culminating in a 'gallery walk' where students share and discuss their colourful Elmer creations.

Year 2 | Laurel Burch Cats

In this Year 2 art unit, students explore the vibrant, stylised cat artwork of American artist Laurel Burch. Known for her bold use of colour and intricate patterns, Burch’s art often featured animals like cats and horses. Students created their own expressive cat artwork by applying paint with a squeegee for the background and using posca pens to add patterns. Through layering different techniques, they learn to blend colours and use expressive lines to draw.

Bendigo Preschool visit

On Thursday 6 May, we welcomed 25 students from Bendigo Preschool. The session focused on story time, linked to the RULER approach, which helps children understand and talk about their feelings. Together, we read two picture storybooks, created colourful puppets, and created some fantastic monster hats! It was a wonderful session, filled with creativity, learning and lots of smiles.
