Spotlight on Learning - Turtle Pod

Recently, Turtle pod has been reading and exploring the text ‘Florette’ in English lessons. This week, we explored the character Mae’s context as well as the author’s context where we learned that she is passionate about nature and cares for children. Turtle pod experienced caring for our environment and making a connection with the text ‘Florette’ by participating in gardening with Chris. Students watered the garden, harvested tomatoes and beans, collected seeds for future planting and created small plants for our classroom. This hands-on activity also provided them with a rich experience to draw on for their sensory writing.
This term in our integrated science and geography unit, we have been exploring the fascinating changes we can observe in the sky. Our most recent focus has been on weather. Students have learned how different kinds of weather data are collected and recorded, and have considered why this weather knowledge is important in our daily lives. This week, students had the opportunity to collect data for their weather diaries from the Bureau of Meteorology website for two different locations in Australia.
