French Cultural Trip Fundraiser

Thanks go out to the staff, parents and students who are going on the exciting French Cultural Trip in early April.

On  Saturday 22 February, our French team spent the day selling an array of delicious baked goodies to customers of the Bunnings Mile End store. Despite the heat, the students were fantastic ambassadors of our school, spruiking great sales and mixing so well with Bunning’s customers.

The team did our school proud, and it’s exciting to tell you that they managed to raise over $730.00 towards their trip expenses.

Bravo à tous!

Year 12 Orientation Day

Recently, our Year 12 cohort had our Orientation Day. Starting at Gateway Baptist Church, we participated in a worship service, joined by Youth Pastor and Old Scholar, Ben Peters.

He encouraged us with a sermon and led us in prayer, making it a deeply meaningful time of ministry and growth. It was wonderful to take part in student- and teacher-led worship, growing not only as a student body, but in close connection with our teachers as well.

We also loved sharing prayer and intimacy with God with each other, in small groups, following Ben’s prompting. His encouragement to remove the “fig leaves” of our lives - the things that we hide behind (as in Genesis 3) - challenged us to let God overcome these struggles as we walk through what will be a challenging, but highly beneficial year ahead.

After this worship service, we also participated in fun activities for the rest of the day, starting with Family Feud style quiz games, before going bowling and laser tag!

We ask for your prayers as we step into this year, that we as Year 12s will do our absolute best in all areas of our lives, and that we will make a tangible, positive difference in the lives of those around us.

As Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us, there is a time for everything, so would you join us in praying that this significant season in our lives will be filled with growth, purpose, and positivity.

God bless you all.

Year 12 Psychology Excursion

Our Year 12 Psychology students enjoyed a private workshop run by Lydia Woodyatt, Professor of Psychology at Flinders University.

Students learned about the three fundamental psychological needs - belonging, autonomy and growth - and how our healthy functioning is dependent on the extent of these needs being met.

It was an enriching experience as students gained knowledge and understanding of contemporary psychological research, and further insight into what tertiary study could look like in the future.

Year 11 Essential Maths

The Year 11 Essential Maths students visited IKEA yesterday to seek inspiration for their summative assessment task.

The task involves redesigning an area in or around their home using furniture and decorations from IKEA to an appropriate scale.  The students also enjoyed lunch at the IKEA restaurant and the girls stocked up on soft toys.

(Article reiterated from last edition)

The partnerships we have with our school and local community are vital to the success of our student pathways. We are committed to improving these relationships as we seek to improve pathway planning opportunities for our students and families.

In 2025, we need your help! The following events are only possible with the support of our families.

Please consider volunteering for one or more of the initiatives below:

1. Year 9-11 Pathway Planning: Professional Panel Interviews - 29 July 2025

A new initiative in 2024, and we plan on refining this event further in 2025! As part of a large event, the Emmaus community partners with tertiary organisations to help students make informed decisions regarding their next step through schooling. We are looking for volunteers to be part of our numerous Professional Panels. For those happy to brave a small audience; a mix of professionals from various industries gather and are led in a small discussion about their careers and advice for others. This informal part of the event helps broaden students' understanding of workplaces, industry and decision-making in their careers. If you would be interested in more information about volunteering, please email jworley@emmauscc.sa.edu.au

2. Work Experience Placements -  2-4 July 2025

For three days, Year 10 students attend workplaces of interest to learn more about the day-to-day of industry. We are so grateful for the legacy of workplaces that have supported our students by opening their doors to the wonderful Emmaus students. If your workplace would be interested in hosting a work experience student in 2025, please complete the attached form as an expression of interest: Google Form: Expression of Interest WE Placement Host

3. Mock Interviews - Term 3, 2025

During Term 3, our Year 11 students participate in Mock Interviews, rehearsing and developing their professional job application and interview skills. Volunteers with backgrounds in Human Resources or experience hiring in small businesses are required to help our students authentically refine these workplace skills. Each student undertakes an interview and is given feedback on their strengths and areas for improvement. If you think this is an area you may be able to volunteer in, please contact kbrice@emmauscc.sa.edu.au for further information.

 4. Careers Website

Our Emmaus Careers website will be having a makeover, ready for 2026. Year 10 students are still using their current portal, and the parent information tabs are still live and full of resources. Our current provider is upgrading the SACE section to reflect the new program.

Parents are welcome to engage with the system: https://careers.ecc.sa.edu.au/

For information regarding curriculum choices at the College, please visit the school website: https://emmauscc.sa.edu.au/life-learning/secondary-school.

I look forward to communicating further with you as the year progresses.
