STAGE 3 NEWS
Stage 3 has had a fabulous start to the year. All students have shown they are great leaders by volunteering to run the sports shed, pack up sand pit equipment and sell icy poles on Fridays. Thank you to all the Year 6 families who have donated icy poles so far this year. Remember to keep bringing them in so we are able to continue this tradition.
In the classroom our teachers are very proud of what we have achieved so far. In English we are reading Storm Boy by Colin Thiele. We loved watching the original movie adaptation of Storm Boy and can’t wait to finish the book so we can watch the latest movie. Lots of our work in class has been linked to this novel such as spelling, grammar and vocabulary. We have learnt lots of new words such as tussocky, writhes, snout, waddling, perched and cruised. Do you know what these words mean?
In writing, we have been using Storm Boy as our model. Colin Thiele described the Corrong where Storm Boy lived. We also described our favourite places. We tried to use a range of sentences in our descriptions, simple, compound and complex and we also used figurative language such as personification, similes and metaphors. Here are some of our descriptions.
Sunshine Coast
At the Sunshine Coast, there are so many memories to be made. The sea hugs the shore as the waves crash down on the golden sand. The sea is as clever as super glue and the waves are dancing flames of the ocean. Nux loves going to get some sourish-sweet ice-cream after a nice cool swim in the ocean. Peacefully, Nux loves going to a clear blue waveless beach and go stand up paddle boarding by herself for some peace and quiet.

Wangi-Wangi
Where the lilypads sleep on the shimmering water, and the seagulls soar over the edge of the world, rests a land sent from heaven. Where the diamond sky meets the cotton-candy clouds, hovering over us like a mother. The swings creek with excitement, and the trees squeal with laughter. The grass is as soft as a pillow, so gentle and caring. Since anyone could remember, it was a beautiful place to belong to.

The Blue Hole
The Blue Hole holds many joyful memories of me swimming at Christmas. The wind howls as the sun shines through the gaps of the trees. It's like a diary. Holding all the things people have experienced there. Quietly, I listen to the children laughing when I am there. From all angels you can hear people enjoying themselves or climbing large majestic rocks. In the wonderful atmosphere, clouds dance and play making a wonderful sky.
Xanthe
Germany
Germany is like an Eastern Pygmy Possum, it hibernates all year and stays out of fights. The hills stand tall looking over their kingdom. The forests whisper secrets to the animals to tell them when there is danger. Rivers flow softly as snow falls. A blanket of white puts everything to sleep. Excitedly, children play and make nice homes in the icy-blue depth but the heat laps up the snow. The people are ants, they work together and never give up even when times are hard. The rivers flow and sway like a th snake of sapphire-blue.
Olivia B
We had so many beautiful descriptions of our favourite places but we could only highlight a few. We used this same technique to write our backfill for our narrative stories and we have been working hard on our sizzling starts. We can’t wait to share these with our school community when we have finished.
In art, we have created some beautiful Storm Boy inspired artwork.
