Principal's Message

Mrs Kylie Bryant - Principal

What a way to finish week 9! Our school grounds were filled with a sense of community on Friday afternoon. It was wonderful to see not only so many students attend our disco but also families join us for a BBQ and a chat. The disco, while a highlight on any calendar for our students, means that as a community our parents and carers can come together and connect. Across the term the one thing that parents all tell me is that they love the small school feel and the sense of community.  It is events like this where we foster that sense of community and provide opportunities for families to meet one another, catch up and in some cases take a breath from the fast paced world we all seem to live in these days. If you joined us, thank you, if you didn’t get the opportunity I hope to see you at our next event. Particular shout out to our amazing P&C who organised and ran the disco and our staff who joined me in supporting this community event.

Across the last two weeks the school has been a hive of activity with lots of things happening.

On Thursday 20 March Mrs Clements led our school in the National Close the Gap Day. National Close the Gap Day advocates for improving the life expectancy and health outcomes for all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. For more than a decade, Australians from across the country, in schools, businesses, and community groups, have shown their support for Close the Gap by marking National Close the Gap Day on the third Thursday in March each year. On National Close the Gap Day, students and staff at Roselea participated in a number of learning activities and completed tasks to promote Aboriginal Perspectives. Mrs Clements has put together a detailed Newsletter article to share with our community, please follow the embedded links within her overview to look at how Roselea spent this important day.

On Wednesday 26 March, our Years 5 and 6 students were fortunate to be invited to view a special performance of Carlingford High School's Mary Poppins the musical. It was a wonderful opportunity for our senior students to spend time in our adjoining high school and to see what opportunities are available at high school for students in the area of Performing Arts. Listening to the enthusiasm of some students we clearly have some talented individuals who we may see on stage in the coming years.

Last Friday I hosted our first Class Parent meeting with the Principal. As a school we have had Class Parents for many years but this year I have introduced regular meetings with the Principal. My aim in meeting with your class parents twice a term is to continue to strengthen communication between home and school. As a busy parent myself, I know how important a role Class Parents play in keeping me on track with all the happenings around my own children's school and ensuring I don’t forget some key information. In my meetings with Class Parents I will be sharing and receiving key information relevant to our school and parent community. In our meeting last week, I discussed the importance of establishing a safe use of technology policy as well as running parent information sessions. Your class parents will be seeking your feedback before our next meeting and then sharing your thoughts and ideas with the group. I am eager to hear the varying voices across our community and this platform will assist in facilitating this. If you have any points or ideas you would like shared in this forum, please reach out to your class parent.

As this is the last newsletter for the term I would like to invite you to our last few significant events on our calendar for Term 1.

In Week 10

  • We are holding our Parent Teacher Interviews all of week 10. These are a great opportunity for you to touch base with your child’s teacher, share information and gain feedback on how your child has settled into the year. If you have been unable to secure an appropriate time, please reach out to your child’s teacher who will be able to arrange another meeting time for you.
  • On Thursday 3 April I invite you to join our K-6 assembly. We have a Year 6 student who is participating in Greatest Shave and she will be cutting her own hair for charity along with a number of staff colouring their hair live at the assembly. Our students are encouraged to participate in our Crazy Hair Day Fundraiser occurring that day as well.

In Week 11

  • On Monday we are holding our K-2 and 3-6 Cross Country Carnivals. 3-6 will be competitive and K-2 is just a fun event and opportunity for our students who show potential in PDHPE to shine. These event always create a sense of school spirit so I hope you can join us in cheering on from the side lines.
  • 3-6  will run from 9.00-11.00am

  • K-2 will run from 11.30-1.00pm

  • This year ANZAC Day falls during school holidays. Our School Leaders will be joining me in representing our school at the Epping RSL sub-Branch ANZAC Dawn Service on 25 April where they will lay a wreath on behalf of our school community. As a school we will be holding our ANZAC Service on Wednesday 9 April at 9.30am. I invite our community to join us and hear from our leaders and special guest Chief Petty Officer Luke Porter as they speak about the significance of this day.
  • On Wednesday 9 April our local Police Youth Liaison Officer will be joining our Stage 3 students in the afternoon to speak about online safety. He will speak to students about how to protect their personal information, cyber safety and what to do if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe when online. This is an important session for our eldest students and one that provides critical information and learning as they learn and play in a world centred around technology.
  • Our final event for Term 1 is our annual Easter Hat Parade. An exciting event for our youngest students. Our students will be making their Easter hats with their buddies. As in previous years we will be providing resources for students to make their hats but we are encouraging students to bring in other materials if they like (no chocolate please). The Easter Hat Parade is being held in the COLA on Thursday 10 April at 2.10pm. The P&C Easter Raffle will also be drawn at this time so make sure you buy some tickets! I do hope you can join us!

Finally I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a safe and happy holiday period and thank you all for a wonderful first term.
