Captains Corner

This Term I have had the chance to present at assembly every fortnight and it has made an impact on my self confidence. Being able to take responsibility and lead assemblies with my fellow captains has taught me how to work better in a team and understand what it is like to represent the students at Doncaster Primary School. It has been very special to run assemblies alongside Mr Ryan during Term 1, and take on his feedback. Each fortnight, after assembly he has congratulated us and provides positive feedback for our future assemblies. I am very passionate to continue working as a leader at DPS, and see what Term 2 has to offer!

This term the captains and I have hosted assemblies every week and have been helping out with responsibilities throughout the school. I am so excited to continue this journey and represent Doncaster Primary School as best as I can. Having the honour to work with teachers and other fellow students has taught me to persevere through hard times and be confident when speaking in front of peers and teachers. During assemblies, we have been cooperatively working with Mr Ryan and my fellow captains to improve our weaknesses and self confidence. I am so excited to see what fun adventures and memorable memories we will make during Term 2, especially at Canberra camp.

This term I have done and learnt a lot of things as a School Captain. Assemblies this term have taught me many things including confidence and reading skills. Before I was a captain,  I feared the stage and couldn’t perform without violently shaking. However, after becoming a captain these struggles vanished. As a captain I have also learnt responsibility. Some of the tasks I have done over the term consist of assemblies, news reports, collecting students for the dental van, and going to conferences. This term has been a success for me as a new captain and I’m adapting well with the role.

My first term as a school captain will definitely be one of my favourite moments as a school captain. All the virtual assemblies we did I started off being a bit nervous. I was thinking to myself, “What if I screw up and embarrass myself?”

As soon as I read the first few lines, all the words just started to flow. Even if I did make a mistake I would just keep on going. In my first face to face assembly I was very nervous. All the bad thoughts were clouding in my head but all that went away as I spoke. My favourite thing about being a school captain is knowing that I am a leader of the school and younger kids look up to me. My first term as a school captain will be one to remember!
