Physical Education

Prep - 2 Physical Education

The P-2 students have developed their rolling, underarm throwing and overarm throwing technique with a range of games and activities. They have learnt some keywords to use to assist in applying the correct technique, including, step/swing/throw for underarm throwing and step/point/throw for overarm. By repeating the action consistently the technique and accuracy continues to develop. Stepping with the opposite foot is an area that students need ongoing reminding of to ensure they develop good habits and remain balanced when throwing. These fundamental skills of throwing are utilised in later years for sports such as those being played by our Level 5 and 6s at interschool sport including, softball, T-Ball, rounders, cricket, basketball and netball.

Level 3/4

The Level 3/4 students have been introduced to the game of T - Ball this term. They have practised catching low balls with the softball glove in front of their bodies and above their heads with the glove in front of their eyes. Fielding with a glove is a new skill to most students, but they have quickly adapted to being able to trap the ball on the ground or adjusting the height of the glove for a bouncing ball and then trapping the ball in the glove with the other hand. All classes finished with a match of T-Ball, applying the skills and rules covered to apply base running and throwing the ball ahead of the batter to get them out.

Level 5/6

The senior school students have practised each of the interschool sports during Physical Education to assist with the understanding of the games rules and specific skills required. The sports covered for summer interschool sport were tennis, rounders, basketball, softball and cricket. While the results for each sport have been mixed, the improvement in skills has been excellent.

Softball

Softball made it to the semi-finals but lost to Doncaster Gardens. During the first of interschool sport the team won all 3 games. Special mention to Naherica 6C and Luka 6C who made a spectacular catch / double play each.

Cricket

Today for interschool sports some of us played cricket. We played 3 matches in total and won one of the 3 games which was against Donburn. We put up a good effort and tried our best. Everyone did an amazing job at playing cricket. We also did way better than last time, because of practice. Well done to all the cricketers! Mika 6C

Tennis

About 20 students played tennis across 2 days. We were nervous at first however we got used to the game and it started our tennis journey. On the first day it was hard but the second day was easier because we had experience. We learnt how to play singles and doubles against Donburn, Templestowe Valley, Doncaster Gardens and more.

The girls team finished in the top 4 which is a fantastic effort. Our girls best winning score was 25-16.

If you’re going to play next year our tips are to let the ball bounce before you hit it and don’t underestimate yourself and most importantly have fun.

Rounders

For interschool sports I played rounders. Unfortunately, neither of the teams won any games today, but we all tried our hardest and had a fun day! We all played a lot of games, were great sports and had a lot of fun! Leila 6C

Basketball

Today for interschool sports, 24 of us played basketball. We had two teams - a boys' team and a girls' team. The boys had some really close games and showed great teamwork, scoring in every match, but we just couldn’t get a win. The girls also played really well, with multiple goal scorers, but unfortunately, they didn’t get a win either. Still, everyone put in a great effort, and it was an awesome day for all!

District Tennis Competition

Well done to all of our Year 5 and 6 students (Farah 5P, Fletcher 5A, Alex 6G and Ruchen 5P), who competed admirably at the district tennis competition at Doncaster Tennis Club on Monday. We had some excellent results across the day. A special mention to Farah who finished as the top ranked girl and will now compete in the Division competition in Term 2.
