Level Six

Year Six has been busy with their learning throughout the term. In Numeracy, we have explored statistics, analysing data and uncovering how it can sometimes be misleading in the media. Our students have also worked on graphing data, developing a deeper understanding of how information can be represented and interpreted.
In Writing, we focused on historical recounts, exploring a range of significant events from the past. Students used their hindsight to analyse the importance of these events, considering their impact on the world today. They also reflected on what could have been done differently, offering their own suggestions on alternative actions or decisions that may have changed history. This deep dive into historical writing has helped students develop critical thinking and perspective-taking skills.
Through Reading, we honed our summarising skills, ensuring we identified and included the most important parts of a text. We learned how to distinguish key ideas from less relevant details and practiced summarising in different formats, such as written responses and verbal explanations. These skills have helped students become more efficient readers, allowing them to engage with a variety of texts more deeply.
In Integrated Studies, we delved into Australian democracy, learning about the House of Representatives and the Senate. Students even had the opportunity to write about what they would do if they were Prime Minister for a week! We also had the chance to create our own version of the Coat of Arms, where students decided what should be represented using Australian culture. Everyone is looking forward to our Canberra trip in Term 2, where we will continue learning about the importance of Parliament House and how our government operates.
It has been a fantastic term of learning, with students developing critical thinking skills and applying their knowledge in meaningful ways!
