Freedom Ride 60th Anniversary
Sixty years ago, on 12th February 1965 , a group of 30 Sydney University students led by Arrente man Charles Perkins visited 9 towns, highlighting and challenging racism and discrimination across NSW.
On Monday 17th February 2025, the community of Walgett, commemorated, honoured and celebrated this significant event. St. Joseph’s Primary School marched proudly alongside their community and had the privilege to perform the Acknowledgement to Country in the local Yuwaalaraay Language under the guidance of Uncle JB and staff to special guests and community.
The Freedom Ride 60th year Commemorative journey continued onto Moree on Wednesday 19th February 2025 with the St. Philomena’s School School Leaders attend the event along with school dancer who proudly perform cultural dances for invited guests and the community as they came together as one to commemorate and celebrate this important chapter of our history.
Congratulations to all our communities and schools in acknowledging this significant journey from the past as we walk together to a hope filled future together.
