Inter-school Debating Workshop

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to take the Interschool Debating group to Lugarno Public School for a debating workshop. We learnt the structure of a debate how to set it up and the roles of the speakers. We discussed the key debating skills, manner, matter and method. We learnt how to define our topic and model it using the structure of where, what and when. We learnt how to prepare a thinking board to brainstorm our three arguments and counterarguments. We were shown tips on rebuttals. We used the PEEL (Point, Explanation, Evidence and Link) structure to order each of our arguments. It was a big day of learning and I am very proud of our students for giving their best effort.

We will be working towards our first debate every Monday lunchtime this term.
