Mindfulness

Mindfulness is something that we have practised for a long time at St Anne's. Each class takes part in mindfulness activities after our first break. This year we are following the Peaceful Classroom format. Peaceful Classrooms is a mindfulness program written by Georgina Manning and can be found on her Peaceful Kids website.

This term we are spending

- 2 days a week explicitly learning about what the effects of Mindfulness are and practising some of the Core Mindfulness activities from Peaceful Classrooms.  For example we have looked at the parts of the brain and how they react when we are worried. We have explored the need to look after our minds just like we look after our body.

-2 days a week are spent in our flow. This means we spend 5/10 mins doing something that gives us joy and creates calm, it might be colouring, reading or listening to calming music.

- On the 5th day we spend time listening to a picture story book to settle ourselves and to help us 'Be Ready to Learn.'

Below are some benefits of mindfulness that are highlighted by Georgina Manning. Mindfulness is something that your child might like to practise before bed.  There are many online aps that can guide children through mindfulness activities.

I hope your week is filled with some joy this week.
