Year 6 recently had the privilege of working with esteemed Senior School Mathematics teacher, Mr Rick Bowman, in a dynamic and engaging problem-solving session.

Students were challenged to apply their mathematical understanding in creative and collaborative ways. Rather than focusing on isolated skills, they explored how reasoning, logical thinking and strategic planning work together when solving complex problems such as The Handshake Problem and Difference of Two Squares. The session encouraged perseverance and creative thinking.

It was wonderful to see students confidently applying their knowledge, discussing strategies and refining their thinking as they worked towards solutions. Experiences like this strengthen the connection between Junior and Senior School learning and inspire students to view mathematics as both challenging and deeply rewarding.

We are grateful to Mr Bowman for sharing his expertise.

Library

Year 4 researched all about Pancake Tuesday during their Library lesson and were fortunate to make some pancakes to eat.

Shrove Tuesday

By Claudia Cooke, Yr 4

Shrove Tuesday is a Christian festival celebrated by many around the globe. It falls on the Tuesday before the beginning of Lent. Lent is forty days before Easter. In these forty days before Easter, many Christians give up luxury things like chocolate, lollies and other things they can live without. In other parts of the world like UK, Ireland, and Canada it is called Pancake Tuesday! Shrove Tuesday helped to use up rich foods such as eggs, and milk.

How we celebrated!

In the library we made pancakes. We waited until the pancakes started to bubble before we flipped them. We added maple syrup to the cooked pancake. They were delicious.

Year 2 celebrated Dr Seuss's birthday on 2 March  by reading The Lorax and indulging in some birthday caramel mud cake.

The Library is having a Chocolate Easter Egg guessing competition. Everyone gets one free entry (if you are able to answer a question about the book you have borrowed). Come along and check out the jar of chocolate Easter Eggs that could one day be yours! (Please note: only guess the number of chocolate Easter eggs. The yellow plastic egg and the chocolate Easter rabbit are not included in the count).

Clean Up Australia

Students at Kinross Wolaroi Junior School shone brightly as they proudly took part in Clean Up Australia Day! With enormous enthusiasm, teamwork and community spirit, our incredible Junior School students rolled up their sleeves to make a real difference. Armed with gloves, bags and big smiles, they worked together to collect litter, care for our grounds and transform our spaces into something even more beautiful.

Their positive energy was contagious as they supported one another, showed leadership and demonstrated genuine pride in their school. Every small action added up to something powerful — a campus that looks cleaner, feels brighter and reflects the respect our students have for their environment.

We are so proud of their commitment to sustainability, responsibility and service. Today was about more than tidying up; it was about building lifelong habits of care and kindness. What an inspiring effort from our amazing Junior School community!

Year 6 Science

Year 6 have been exploring different body systems as part of our new Science unit. In the labs, we created a model of the digestive system, looking at how the food we eat travels through our body and gets used as energy, with some food being turned into food waste. We discussed how the digestion process works; including how our stomach, small and large intestines function, whilst also exploring the role different acids play in helping break down food. This was a great hands-on way of exploring our body systems. Thanks to Mrs Gibson and Ms Wescott who assisted Year 6 with their learning!

Year 5 Incursion – Fizzics Education

Wednesday 25 February

On Wednesday, Year 5 students participated in an engaging Science workshop with Fizzics Education as part of their unit on Electricity. The session provided a highly interactive and hands-on learning experience, allowing students to explore electrical concepts through practical investigation. Working collaboratively, students constructed simple circuits and developed their understanding of how electrical energy flows. They investigated the differences between series and parallel circuits, observing how each configuration affects the brightness of bulbs and the reliability of a circuit. The workshop supported classroom learning by giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical context, strengthening their understanding of electrical systems through experimentation and inquiry.
