International Women's Day

On March 8th, International Women’s Day is celebrated across the globe. This day is a global occasion dedicated to recognising the achievements of women, promoting gender equality and inspiring the next generation of leaders. This year’s theme, “Give to Gain”, focuses on where women can help others to see progression. Brigidine held a whole school assembly on Monday, March 9th to recognise this day within the College community.

Our assembly began with a reflection from Jacqueline Liao and Emily Reid on their attendance at an International Women’s Day luncheon, where they heard from Jacinda Ardern who spoke about calm and compassionate leadership, using empathy and kindness to motivate others, and driving resilience to make change.

The assembly also featured guest speaker Commander Barbra Parker, a Brigidine College ex-student and current parent, who has served in the Royal Australian Navy for over 30 years as a meteorologist and oceanographer. She currently works in support of strategic committees for the Chief of Navy. Barbra shared her thoughts and insights into leadership as well as the role women can play as leaders, sharing a variety of different female role models to aspire to. We are very grateful to Barbra for sharing this insight.
