Room 2

Foundation - Year 2

📖 Literacy Learning

Room 2 has been busy building strong reading habits and growing our thinking as readers! Students have been learning how good readers respond to texts by sharing their ideas and explaining their thinking. After reading a story, students chose an important or favourite part, drew it, and then wrote sentences to explain why they chose it. We have been practising using the word “because” to help explain our thinking, just like strong readers do!

We have also been learning about staying focused during learning. Students explored how everyone can get distracted sometimes (even teachers!), and practised strategies to help get their brains back on track. Together we created our own “Focus Toolbox” with strategies such as taking a deep breath, moving our eyes back to the page, and reminding ourselves to get back to learning.

It has been fantastic to see students sharing their ideas, building their confidence, and showing great learning habits in Room 2. We are very proud of the effort everyone is putting into their reading and learning each day!

💛 Wellbeing Learning

As part of our Respectful Relationships (RRRR) lessons, students in Room 2 have been learning about kindness, what it looks like, what it feels like, and how our actions can make others feel happy and supported.

Students shared ideas about kind actions such as helping a friend, sharing, using kind words, or checking in when someone feels sad. They then created drawings and short sentences showing a time they were kind to someone, or a kind action they would like to do.

We also talked about how kindness makes people feel on the inside. Students reflected on how it feels to show kindness and how it feels when someone is kind to us. It was wonderful to hear so many thoughtful ideas and to see students recognising the positive impact their actions can have on others.

At Cowwarr, we love seeing our students live our values by showing care, kindness and respect to one another every day.

💬 Respect: Words and Tone

In our SWPBS lessons, students have been learning about responsibility and owning our actions. We discussed how everyone makes mistakes, but being responsible means being honest, taking ownership of our choices and working to fix problems.

Through role plays and discussions, students practised using responsible language such as “I made a mistake,” “I’m sorry,” and “I’ll fix it.” These lessons help students understand that honesty builds trust and helps solve problems.

It has been wonderful to see students practising these ideas and supporting each other to make positive choices at school.
