Wellbeing

Questions to ask your child’s teacher at the upcoming parent teacher meetings that go beyond academic achievement.
Parent–teacher meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher — not just about academic achievements, but about how your child is really experiencing school.
While academic progress matters, research consistently reminds us that a child’s emotional wellbeing, friendships and sense of belonging play a big role in their long-term success and happiness. When children feel supported, confident and engaged, learning naturally follows.
Taking a more holistic approach means exploring how your child is feeling, connecting with others and managing everyday challenges at school. Conversations about joy, curiosity, resilience and empathy can be just as meaningful as discussing test results or assessment marks.
Questions you might like to ask your child’s teacher:
- Is my child happy at school?
- Who are their friends, and how do they interact with others?
- How does my child treat themselves and others?
- How do they respond to challenges or tricky moments in the classroom?
- What excites them about learning?
- What do they find difficult or uninteresting?
- Do they feel comfortable asking for help?
- What are they most curious about right now?
- Are they comfortable expressing their feelings?
How do they manage and regulate their emotions?
By asking these kinds of questions, we open the door to richer conversations — ones that help us better understand our children as whole people, not just learners.
Let’s continue to champion a compassionate, balanced approach to education, where our children’s minds and spirits grow side by side.
