Year 11 Senior Support – Work and Study Month Presentation
As part of Work and Study Month, our Year 11 Senior Support class recently participated in a presentation designed to help students start thinking about their future pathways beyond school.
Connor and Lily, former St Mary MacKillop College students, from Headspace spoke with students about the importance of looking after their mental health while navigating study, employment and future planning. They shared practical strategies for managing stress, building resilience and seeking support when needed, particularly during times when students are making important decisions about life after school.
Students also heard from CUC Mallee, who spoke about the opportunities available through the Country Universities Centre and how they support regional students to access university studies locally while remaining connected to their community.
In addition, representatives from AXIS Employment and CVGT Employment explained how their organisations assist young people with employment pathways. They discussed the support they provide with job seeking, apprenticeships and traineeships, building work readiness skills and connecting students with local employment opportunities.
These sessions gave students valuable insight into the many supports available to them as they begin planning for work, further training or university study after school.
We would like to thank Headspace, CUC Mallee, AXIS Employment and CVGT Employment for taking the time to visit and share their knowledge and resources with our students.
On Monday 16th March the Murray Mallee LLEN in partnership with headspace Swan Hill are facilitating a FREE information session for parents/guardians and the community which will support you in better understanding the VET Cluster, work experience, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) placements, School-Based Apprenticeships & Traineeships (SBATs), work and study resources along with the pathways available to our young people.
You will gain practical advice and strategies to support your child(ren) in gaining industry experience and work-related skills and promote and encourage strong future study and career pathway outcomes from school to work.
The information session will coincide with headspace's “Work and Study Month” in March which is a national event shining a light on the important link between work, study and the important contribution to young people's mental health and wellbeing.
