School Wide Positive Behaviour Support

March SWPBS Focus: Respect the Expectation
This month at our Junior Campus, we are excited to be running our March SWPBS focus: Respect the Expectation. The initiative launched in Week 6 and will continue throughout the remainder of March (Term 1).
Throughout the month, we are placing a strong spotlight on Respectful Behaviour across all areas of the school, in classrooms, the yard, the library and during clubs. Our aim is to strengthen and celebrate the positive behaviours that help create a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for everyone.
What We Are Focusing On
During March, staff are explicitly recognising and reinforcing students who demonstrate respectful behaviours, including:
- Following adult instructions the first time
- Using polite language and an appropriate tone
- Taking care of school property and belongings
These behaviours reflect our school-wide positive behaviours: Safe, Respectful & Responsible.
Celebrating Positive Behaviour
Students who demonstrate these behaviours may receive a “You’ve Been Spotted” card from staff. These acknowledgements help reinforce the positive choices our students are making every day and highlight the importance of respectful interactions within our school community.
We are already seeing many wonderful examples of students stepping up and modelling respect in their words, actions and attitudes.
How Families Can Support
We encourage families to continue conversations at home about what respect looks like at school, online and in the wider community. When school and home work together, we strengthen the message and the impact.
We look forward to celebrating a month where respect is visible everywhere and continuing to build a culture where every member of our community feels valued, heard and safe.

School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support Community Feedback
Victoria University Secondary College has been committed to implementing School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) for many years and remains dedicated to empowering our students through this well-established initiative.
SWPBS is a whole-school framework that builds a positive social culture and provides the support students need to achieve both social and academic success. It focuses on proactively creating an environment where positive behaviours are explicitly taught, consistently reinforced, and supported by all staff.
At Victoria University Secondary College, our SWPBS approach is:
- Positive and proactive
- Preventative rather than reactive
- Dependent on adult consistency
- Evidence-based and data-informed
- Responsive to the needs of all students
- Aligned with and supportive of other school programs
Through the implementation of SWPBS, our teachers are better equipped to support and challenge students, helping to create a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment.
Key Achievements in 2025
Our continued focus on positive behaviour and student wellbeing has contributed to several positive outcomes:
- Higher NAPLAN Results – Year 7 and Year 9 students achieved higher NAPLAN scores in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar, and Numeracy compared with similar and network schools.
- Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) – 81% positive endorsement for Stimulated Learning, highlighting the impact of consistent teaching and reinforcement of expected behaviours.
- Attendance – Our student attendance rate reached 87%, exceeding the 84% average for similar schools.
By fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment, SWPBS continues to support our students to succeed academically while remaining engaged in their learning.
SWPBS Statewide Recognition
In 2024, Victoria University Secondary College achieved Silver Level Acknowledgement in the SWPBS framework.
After receiving Bronze Level recognition in both 2022 and 2023, this achievement reflects our continued commitment to building a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment for all students.
We are currently being assessed for our 2025 SWPBS implementation, with the goal of maintaining our Silver status and working towards achieving Gold Level recognition by 2027.
Strengthening Family and Community Partnerships
One of our key goals for 2026 is to further strengthen family and community involvement by engaging families and community members in reinforcing positive behaviours beyond the school setting.
In Week 10 (31 March), the SWPBS Team invites families to join us to:
- Share feedback on our SWPBS initiatives
- Ask questions
Learn more about how positive behaviours are supported at our school.
We look forward to connecting with you and hearing your perspectives.
Best regards,
Nana Yaw Otuo-Acheampong
SWPBS Leader
