Who's Who in Leadership...
My name is Nina Grieve, and I am the Faith & Mission Leader at St Luke’s, as well as a Year 3/4 teacher. I am passionate about nurturing faith within our school community and helping our students grow in their love of Jesus. Our school works closely with the parish to strengthen faith formation and support the living out of our Catholic mission. At the heart of my role is a commitment to keeping the Catholic identity of St Luke’s alive and thriving in all that we do. In practical terms, this includes coordinating school Masses and liturgies, overseeing the sacramental program, promoting and aligning the liturgical seasons within the school curriculum and liaising closely with our parish.
Introducing...
My name is Deb Bilston and I am delighted to be teaching Year 5/6O on Mondays and Tuesdays. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work and learn alongside the wonderful community at St Luke’s this year. I am enjoying getting to know the students and supporting them as they grow in confidence and curiosity as learners. I look forward to bringing warmth, encouragement and a love of learning to my role at St Luke’s.
A little bit about me... I am married and have two children. My husband currently works in Shanghai. My daughter, Sabrina, is a doctor living in Ballina, NSW, and my son, Tom, lives in Perth and is about to head to the USA to study for his Master’s degree in Finance. Our family has also had the wonderful experience of living overseas for many years in both Thailand and China.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, doing Pilates and heading to the footy to cheer on Collingwood.
Hi, I’m Zoe Bolge and I’m so excited to be joining the St. Luke's community! I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the footy, a cafe or taking my cavoodle, Oscar, for walks. I play netball socially, coach a senior team, and also run a Net Set Go program for junior players. When I’m not wrapped up in netball, I love reading a good book outdoors. As an early childhood and primary education student, I cannot wait to bring my learning into practice and make meaningful contributions to everyone I work with.
What's happening... in P.E?
On Friday 5th May, the 5/6 students participated in the District Summer Gala against five other local schools. They played in teams competing in tennis, tee-ball, cricket and kickball. We were so proud of how all the students represented St Luke’s with fair play and great sportsmanship. All teams had fantastic results winning many of their games. Both the kickball and cricket teams came away from the day undefeated. The kickball competition has no further progression. However, the cricket team will progress to the division competition on October 16th this year. They will play successful teams from five other districts. Congratulations to all students! What a fantastic day.
What's happening... in Performing Arts?
Recently, our Grade 3/4s turned into secret agents for a high stakes mission in Performing Arts! After watching a clip from Mission Impossible, we talked about how actors make a scene feel "tense" and exciting. Then, it was time for the main event: The Great Museum Heist. Students worked in teams to sneak past "lasers" and hack into a safe. We had leaders directing the plan, "tech experts" on gadgets, and even a "sneezer" who almost woke up the sleeping security guard! It was a fantastic way to practice group work and staying focused as a character, especially when we added the movie soundtrack to set the mood.
What's happening ...in STEM?
In STEM, we’ve had a jam packed term of learning.
This term we have been focusing on Science.
In Prep we have explored how objects move and experimented with moving objects to see if we have to push or pull them.
In Juniors we have learnt about living things and what they need to grow, thrive and survive. We planted some seeds in the garden towards the start of the term and have been watching them grow, giving them everything they need.
In Middles, we explored what matter is, the properties of solids, liquids and gases and how matter changes between different states. We have used experiments to demonstrate all of these concepts including trying to turn chocolate into a gas!
In Seniors, we looked at matter, just like the Middles, but have now started to investigate how living things grow and change and the role organisms have in ecosystems.
This week in Juniors, Middles and Seniors we have started planning ‘stop-motion animation’ projects to show our science learning from the term.
Keep an eye out for the finished animations, I’m sure they will be amazing!
