Class

We can hardly believe we are almost at the end of Term 1! Students have been busy with a variety of tasks and projects across the Class area, including writing persuasive feature articles, narrative writing, statistical investigations and learning about animal husbandry.
Next term will be just as packed with activities and assessments as this term. In weeks 2 and 3 students will be sitting their first round of OLNA assessments for the year. We encourage all those who have to sit their OLNA, to keep practising over the Easter break using the OLNA Support program. Weeks 4 and 5 will be the Year 11 ATAR Semester 1
examinations.

We are very excited that our greenhouse has been renovated recently. We hope to use the greenhouse for a range of projects in Plant Production.
Year 11 Plant Production students have been working on projects related to wheat production, analysing wheat varieties and selecting those suitable for specific Ag zones. As well as learning about the many varieties of wheat, students have also considered what other crops would be suitable to plant giving them real- world skills they can apply in the future.
Year 11 ATAR have been learning about pests and diseases in Ag Science and Technology. Researching animal and plant pests and diseases, students have created projects and presented their findings to the class. This has been a great opportunity for students to focus on areas of interest for them personally.
Year 12 Plant Production have been investigating wheat markets. Many were surprised to learn how much wheat is exported to external markets. Students also learned about the products the wheat is used for including noodles, pasta and bread. Using the school's farm map, students created a plan for crop production and associated budgets. This project is great for making links between the practical skills learned on farm with the financial and planning skills required to manage a cropping enterprise.
