Music

Term 1 has been a big change for the students. The music department saw the retirement of Deb Pastor at the end of 2025 and introduced Jacqui Creamer into the role for 2026. Jacqui is excited to try something new and use her enthusiasm and love of singing, dancing and drama to re-create the music program into “Performing Arts”. The students are loving the introduction of drama and dance while still enjoying music.
The students started the term with an introduction to the new subject, exploring dance, drama and music through fun, engaging games and activities. All students across the school explored a large variety of instruments and have learnt many different skills.
All students have explored what music, dance, and drama looks like in other cultures around the world. This was perfectly represented at our week 9 assembly with the Harmony Day performances. Well done to all classes and students who performed!
The week 7 assembly saw our school band perform “I want you to want me” by Letter to Cleo. This was a fantastic performance and Mrs Creamer thanks all the band members for giving up their time to practise each Thursday lunch and before school. What a talented bunch of students we have here at St Joseph’s.
The Choir has also been working extremely hard this term. St Joseph’s choir has grown to 50 plus students from years 3-6. The choir began learning the Acknowledgement of Country and the National Anthem to perform at assembly each week. Mrs Creamer is excited to announce that individual choir members are also beginning to lead the National Anthem at assembly each week, with the choir supporting them.
Our St Joseph’s School masses have never sounded better. The choir has been working hard to perform music live at our masses and some choir and band members even represented the school by performing at Sunday’s weekend mass on March 22nd. A highlight of the St Joseph Feast Day mass was the live music played by Leo Barker and Emma Moore, as well at the Choir’s reflection song about St Joseph.
There is a lot of excitement in the school with all these new opportunities for students to perform in multi ways. We look forward to seeing what Term 2 brings. Stay tuned!
