What's happening in the classroom

Foundation
During our Inquisitive unit on Places, students identified and explained why places are special to them. They described the feelings and activities associated with their special places and also recognised how those places can change over time.
Grade 1
The Grade 1 students have been busy learning how to break longer words into smaller parts called syllables to help make reading easier. By clapping, tapping, and listening for the different parts of a word, students are discovering that big words can be more manageable when we split them up. This strategy is helping them sound out unfamiliar words and build confidence in their reading.
During our literacy rotations, we have also been practising our tricky words. Students have been working hard to recognise and read these words automatically, which is helping to build their fluency and support their overall reading skills. It has been wonderful to see the students developing their confidence and independence as readers!
Grade 2
In grade 2 we have been learning about chick's. Chicks are a symbol of new life, like Jesus giving new life to us through his crucifixion. We have written information reports about chickens; we have built barns and houses for our chicks and read to them daily.
Grade 3
Grade 3s have been busy working on multiplication and division these past few weeks, check out our vegetable garden arrays.
We have also been learning all about Holy Week and what significance and symbols are associated with each of the special days, Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday. We enjoyed creating artwork to show what each day means to us.
We have been reading a great book called ‘here we go around Australia’. It has some funny pictures and lots of adventures that we’d like our families to take us on.
Have a wonderful Easter break to everyone and can’t wait to see you all back in term 2.
Grade 4
Grade 4 Humanities - Pirates and Early Explorers!
During Term 1 the Humanities focus for the Grade 4 students has been on Explorers and how the world was discovered, particularly Australia. We have enjoyed discovering about how and why the early explorers were so daring and prepared to take a risk to travel across the globe towards unknown lands. We know now they were searching for new trade routes, gold, fame and new land to claim for their King and country. Did you know Matthew Flinders was the first explorer to full circumnavigate the continent of Australia in his journeys from 1801 to 1803?
It has also been interesting to learn about early pirates from various nations - French, Dutch, Greek and even Welsh! Some pirates ended up becoming early leaders in their empires such as the Barbarossa Brothers from Greece. Sir Francis Drake from England was such a well liked pirate Queen Elizabeth I gave him a knighthood!
Grade 5
The grade 5 students have been highly engaged in their literacy studies where they have been learning about the construction of significant buildings such as skyscraper, bridges and underwater constructions. This has also provided us with many opportunities to get hands on with the ideas we have been reading, although at a lot smaller scale!
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a truly wonderful break and we look forward to welcoming you back in Term 2.
"Archictecture is one of the special areas of building design as it makes buildings eye-catching and wonderful to see" - Jakra J
Grade 6
On 25th March, the Grade 6 students joined other Grade 6 students from Euroa and Mansfield for a Discovery Day at FCJ.
Students participated in a range of activities including woodwork, science, food technology and music. Emma P. was particularly excited to learn about the “Let’s Find Our Voice” program and the opportunity to sign up. Chelsea M. enjoyed the music sessions and the chance to make new friends.
Thank you to the FCJ staff for providing this wonderful opportunity.
