Foundation News

Hello fabulous Foundation families!

We have hit the mid point of our school term and we are so proud of the learning and friendships our Foundation students are exploring. We have begun our parent helper program and we thank the volunteers who are helping out in our classroom. We still have available slots in all 4 classrooms and sign up sheets in classroom windows for anyone who is interested in volunteering.

Some quick house keeping tips for families organising lunch orders and school pick ups; -

  • please notify the front office if someone new is picking up your child
  • please still send a fruit snack if your child has a lunch order, as the lunch order arrives after snack time.

We are loving the show and tell aspect of our classrooms (which we call Classroom News) and encourage students to continue sharing their news, pictures, and creations. We ask that students don't bring toys for show and tell, but rather share their creations, plans, news, and photos if they wish. It has been lovely getting to know our students better through this process.

Spanish

Students in Foundation have been learning about the five vowels in Spanish and practising their sounds. Although this is new for most students, they have shown wonderful enthusiasm and have picked it up very quickly. They also have been learning the names and sounds of the Spanish consonants, beginning with the letter m, and they are enjoying practising how it sounds in different words. They are gradually recognising the letter in texts and activities, showing great enthusiasm as they continue developing their Spanish skills. In mathematics, we have been working on counting from 0–10 and developing our subitising skills, helping students recognise small quantities instantly and build strong number sense. They also have been working with number lines (líneas numéricas), exploring how to use them to count, identify numbers, and better understand number position. They are progressing confidently and showing wonderful interest in each new learning experience.

English

Students continue to expand their phonological awareness and practice their writing and are doing a wonderful job. We have begun exploring the form of the recount. Students are engaging in language experiences, sequencing steps, recounting activities and putting their pencils in motion. We particularly enjoyed our hopscotch language experience this week and look forward to what comes next!

Inquiry

During Inquiry, students have been learning important social skills such as how to make friends, share, and respect each other’s personal space. We have been exploring what it looks like to work together, take turns, and include others in our play. As everyone continues getting used to school life, the children are discovering how to communicate kindly and build positive friendships.

Our First Incursion – A Big Success!

Our first incursion was a fantastic success! The Supreme Incursion: Team Building activities encouraged students to work together, share ideas, and support one another. It was wonderful to see such great teamwork and collaboration throughout the day.

Here are some photos from the day!

Library

We also have been enjoying our library visits every fortnight, where students learn how to use the library respectfully and experience the excitement of borrowing books to take home. They are doing a wonderful job learning how to do things together as a class and becoming part of our school community.
