What is the Scholastic Book Club?
Book Club provides families with an affordable and convenient way to access the best in children's literature to encourage leisure reading. Book Club brings the magic of reading to families by:
- curating the catalogue in age-appropriate sections with a huge variety of excellent quality, affordable books.
- providing regular access to books for the home via your school to build good reading habits.
- contributing learning and literacy resources back to schools.
The attachment above outlines the steps on how to place an order on the Scholastic Book Club website. The books you purchase are delivered to school.
*Please note that the College does not endorse any of the material for sale through Scholastic Book Club; any choices are made by you.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
We are once again encouraging students to take part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge. Students are challenged to read 12 books over the year, and those who complete the challenge will receive a medal or certificate.
Each class teacher will decide how forms are distributed to their students, so please contact your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about how they will complete the challenge.
The challenge ends on 4th September this year, and all forms must be returned to Miss Potter by then.
Caring for our books
Our Library books will, from time to time, need repair. This is expected and often a good sign that our books are being well-used and borrowed by many students!
If your child has borrowed a book and notices it needs repair, please encourage them to bring it directly to Miss Potter in the Library. We have the resources to properly repair our books and ensure they are usable. Please don’t try to fix books at home.
Some tips to ensure our books are being looked after:
- Keep books in a library bag
- Keep books away from food and drink
- Use a bookmark
If you have any library-related questions, please be in touch at bplibrary@emmauscc.sa.edu.au
Happy Reading!

Exploring the wonders of the water cycle in Year 3/4
This term, our Year 3/4 students have been diving into an exciting Science unit all about the water cycle and the important role water plays in our environment.
Through a series of hands‑on learning experiences, students have been developing a strong understanding of how water moves, changes, and supports life.
One of our first investigations involved creating mini water cycles using snaplock bags.
Students added water, sealed their bags, and placed them on the classroom windows. Over time, they observed evaporation, condensation, and precipitation happening right before their eyes - an engaging way to make scientific concepts visible and relatable.
We also explored transpiration, examining how water moves through plants. By placing leaves from one of our school trees into sealed bags, students could see moisture collecting inside, helping them understand how plants release water back into the atmosphere.
Another highlight was our experiment on how to collect fresh water from salty ocean water.
Students investigated how evaporation from salty water condenses and precipitates, producing fresh, drinkable water.
As 97% of Earth’s water is in salty oceans, this shows that our rain can be salt-free.
To build on this learning, we are looking forward to our upcoming excursion to the Happy Valley Reservoir. During a guided ranger tour, students will learn about how water is conserved, stored, and used in our community.
They will also explore the local environment and discover the importance of protecting our natural water sources.
This unit has been a wonderful mix of curiosity, discovery, and environmental awareness, and we are excited to continue exploring how water shapes our world.
