Created by God, expressed through art

After reading the beautiful story God Knows All About Me, our class was reminded of a very special truth; that each of us is known and loved by God.

The book opened up meaningful conversations about how God created every child uniquely and with great care.

We connected this to our biblical focus for the term, Psalm 139:14, which tells us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

The children reflected on how this means that every part of them, from their eyes and smiles to their personalities and gifts, was designed with great purpose.

Inspired by this message, the children were invited to explore what makes each of them special and unique through art.

We began by looking closely at our own faces and talking about the different features we could see.

Together, we discussed shapes and lines we noticed, eyes that looked like circles, mouths made with curved lines, and hair represented with fine lines or swirls.

Using black markers, the children carefully observed themselves and began to translate what they saw onto paper.

Each child created a self-portrait, thoughtfully choosing shapes, lines, and details to represent who they are. This experience encouraged careful observation, body awareness, and confidence in expressing themselves creatively.

As they worked, we were reminded again that no two portraits were the same, just as no two children are the same.

Each piece of artwork beautifully reflected the individuality that God has placed within them.

The children showed wonderful focus, creativity, and pride in their work. We are so proud of the way they embraced both the artistic challenge and the biblical truth that they are wonderfully made.

We look forward to watching their artistic skills, confidence, and understanding of their God-given uniqueness continue to grow throughout the year.

Nature Play SA Visit to Brooklyn Park ELC 🌿

Our ELC children recently enjoyed an exciting and meaningful extension of their learning journey with a special visit from Nature Play SA.

Through hands-on exploration in the natural environment, children investigated, built, imagined, and discovered. They delighted in feeling different textures, smelling a variety of plants, observing living things, and creating their own cubbies, sparking curiosity and creativity at every turn.

It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and sense of wonder grow throughout the visit. At Emmaus, we stand in awe of God’s beautiful creation and encourage our students to appreciate, respect, and protect it.
