Modern Choir

Miss Poppy & Miss Maria

There are exciting times ahead for the Modern Choir in 2025. This is what we know already although not all the details are available yet.

There will be plenty of opportunities to sing and perform this year. Students who love singing, are in Year 2 or higher and are willing to come to regular Thursday lunchtime rehearsals, please come along!

In 2025, Modern Choir will …

  • Rehearse on Thursday lunchtimes, starting in Week 4 of Term 1. Please start thinking about the songs you’d like to sing/perform! Choir will vote on your suggestions so we can get started quickly.
  • Be involved in Y-Fest on Saturday 5th April – the day after Term 1 finishes. In collaboration with Artists for Kids Culture, it involves a lunchtime school visit from their Arts Bus (date TBC). Modern Choir will perform at this community festival event. Visit the Y-Fest website to find out about last year’s event.
  • Return to the local aged care facility, Wintringham, to perform for the residents for at least two performances during the year.
  • We are on track to sing at daytime City of Port Phillip Citizenship Ceremonies in both May and November – details TBC. Start thinking of songs about ‘Australia’ and we’ll create a list to vote from for that, too.
  • Sing at the PMPS Fete and the End of Year Concert.

So, there’s lots to be excited about! Miss Poppy and Miss Maria can’t wait to see who turns up to our first rehearsal on Thursday 20th February. Be sure to bring some song suggestions with you!

NB: The age range for Modern Choir is Year 2 and above.

Choir Uniform

Choir uniform is different to school uniform! The generous winnings of The Portals at Parent Battle of the Bands meant that we were able to purchase 35 school Choir Vests last year.

Choir uniform is plain black tops and bottoms (no prints, please), with the added choir vest which has school colours of red and blue. They look terrific and it’s an honour to wear this uniform while representing our school in the community.

Choir Vest Request!

We first wore our Choir Vests for performances last November, and they need freshening up. If you can help with washing and pressing some (there are 35 altogether), please contact me directly on maria.chadwick@education.vic.gov.au

Thanks in advance for your community spirit!

We’re looking forward to what the 2025 Choir can achieve through singing and performance and hope to see many students at rehearsal on Thursday 20th February.

Yours in creativity,

Miss Poppy and Miss Maria
