Principal's Address

Welcome back
Welcome back to a brand-new year at Boorowa Central School! It has been a great first week of school with all students enthusiastically engaged with their learning. To top it off, students also have the opportunity to play on our brand-new playground during breaks – it’s a good time at Boorowa Central School.
New students and Kindy
Our youngest and smallest students have settled in well and look very smart in their new uniform. I am looking forward to watching them as they make huge learning growth in a relatively short space of time. I am also looking forward to reading many books and sharing funny stories with our newest school students. Kindergarten is always a hoot.
New Staff
Boorowa Central School welcomes 3 staff members into new roles in 2025. As Primary Assistant Principal, Miss Meg McIntosh joins the school with experience at Bungendore Public School and Young North Public School. Miss McIntosh has a passion for all things literacy and is looking forward to leading our staff to embed quality teaching, learning and assessment practices in primary. Miss McIntosh also has a background in performing arts which our students will benefit from as we draw closer to the SMArt and Drama night in Term 3.
Ms Jennifer Cox joins our school as the Faculty Leader of English / HSIE. Ms Cox was a part-time member of our school in Semester 2 of 2024 whilst she transitioned to the NSW curriculum from the ACT. Ms Cox has many years of experience in faculty leadership, pastoral care and expert knowledge of cross curriculum, interest-based project learning.
Ms Trudy Mahoney, whilst not a new face, is new to the role of Deputy Principal at Boorowa Central School. Ms Mahoney acted as Deputy Principal for 5 terms before being successful through merit selection. Ms Mahoney brings a wealth of expertise in instructional leadership, best practice teaching and behaviour management.
I look forward to working with each of the new educational leaders this year and in the years to come.
2025 Student Leadership Team
The Primary Captains and Vice Captains were elected at the end of last term when I was on leave. Therefore, I made sure I had the pleasure of meeting with them on Tuesday to take some formal photo’s, share some sandwiches, enjoy milkshakes and discuss the year ahead. Each of our new young leaders are very excited about their roles and spoke confidently with senior Captains Emma and Jenna during our meeting.
Our 2025 student leadership team:
Senior Captains Emma and Jenna
Primary Captains Edie and Joe
Primary Vice Captains Maddyn and Will
Welcome BBQ and new playground unveiling
Boorowa Central School is hosting the annual Welcome BBQ on Wednesday 26 February from 5.30pm. Come along to meet our new staff, meet your child’s teacher(s) and enjoy a relaxing afternoon whilst the children play on the new playground equipment.
This event is open to existing families, new families, prospective families and all interested community members.
Come along and join the fun.
Change to Primary Assembly
This year, assembly will be on a 3-weekly rotation. This is to align assembly with our systems within the school and as a result of the new teaching award.
Primary assembly will now be on Monday from 2.30pm in week 3, 6 and 9 each term. Please join us to celebrate the success of our students.
Focus on Attendance and behaviour
At the secondary assembly this week I spoke to the students about our school’s attendance and negative behaviour entries. I displayed our 2024 data and broke it down to year groups, highlighting where we can improve. I will be tracking attendance and behaviour closely this year and displaying this each assembly. The best performing year groups at each assembly will be acknowledged with a reward. The students are currently generating a list of rewards that they would like. Our attendance goal for the year is to improve to at least 85%.
Please support your child to attend school every day, unless they are unwell. Together, we can improve our attendance and reduce learning gaps.
