Principals message

Kilberry has been a hive of activity, with students thriving in both their learning and well-being. Our classrooms are buzzing with rich discussions, hands-on learning, and students pushing themselves to achieve their best. Teachers are using high-impact strategies to strengthen literacy and numeracy, ensuring every child makes meaningful progress.

Beyond the classroom, we’ve had some incredible celebrations that have brought our community together. Harmony Day performances highlighted the beautiful diversity of our school, the Lunar New Year dragon performance was a showstopper, and our Easter Hat Parade was a sea of creativity. We also embraced a Free Dress Day for Eid, celebrating the many cultures that make Kilberry special.

And then there was the Annual Colour Run—a highlight of the term! Students raced through clouds of colour, laughter echoed across the oval, and only some teachers were lucky (or unlucky?) enough to be slimed! The water gun station was a huge hit, with parents enthusiastically joining in and having lots of fun.

We also had our first Parent-Teacher Interviews for the year, where we saw one of the highest attendance rates in recent years. For those who attended you would have noticed that we changed the location to the hall to allow quicker access to interpreters and also reduce the time taken to walk from class to class which resulted in most interviews occurring within the planned time frame. It was fantastic to see so many parents engaging in conversations about their child’s progress—your involvement makes a huge difference!

On a more practical note, our school grounds are looking fantastic, thanks to students eating inside and only taking food outside to designated eating areas. This small change has made a big difference in keeping our yard clean and litter-free—well done, everyone! There will be some additional gardening and painting of portables over the break. We will keep you updated with the progress.

Attendance Rewards: Students who achieved 100% attendance in Term 1 will enjoy a pizza party, while those with 95-99% will receive a Zooper Dooper and extra recess. These rewards will take place in the first few weeks of Term 2, and all eligible students will be notified then. The attendance clock resets in Term 2, so every student has a fresh chance to work towards their goal. Of course, we encourage 100% attendance—but only if students are feeling well!

A huge thank you to our staff, students, and families for making Kilberry such a vibrant, supportive, and fun place to learn. Bring on Term 2!
