Before & After School Care

Weekly TheirCare Highlights Term 1 Week 4 Learning and Exploring
Here is our land, here is our sky, here are our children and here am I. We stand together hand in hand to appreciate the Aboriginal People of this land.
This week our children from Lalor East PS and St John XXIII PS were able to engage in variety of indoor, outdoor and gym learning experiences. It was amazing to see our children willing and eager to join and engage in our planned experiences as we explore the broad games and group play. Lego competition, sensory and outdoor send play, gymnastic and hide and seek tag. Children were also engaged in our cooking classes and this week we have made icy pools from fruit and fruit sticks where children were able to use different fruits and create their own fruit stick.
Play promotes healthy development and critical thinking skills. It reinforces memory, helps children understand cause and effect, and, according to Mendez, helps children explore the world — and their role in it.
Weekly TheirCare Highlights Term 1 Week 5 Cooking Club
This week our children from Lalor East PS and St John XXIII PS were able to engage in variety of indoor, outdoor and gym learning experiences.. The highlight of our week was us starting our cooking club again this year as this has being our children the biggest interest. It was amazing to watch children all want to join in and make cookies, pancakes for breakfast and even a colourful rainbow bread that we had for our afternoon tea. Children also were involved in making mini pizzas and special hearts fairy bread for tea and breakfast.
Teaching children to cook is one of the best ways to develop a positive relationship with food. There are lots of ways to do this, at any age! It gives children exposure to food without having the pressure to eat it, but when they’re involved in preparation, they’re often more open to trying and eating different foods.
