Wellbeing update

Wellbeing @ KSC

Student wellbeing is at the heart of all that we do at Koonung Secondary College. We recognise that students learn best when they feel happy, engaged, connected, healthy and safe. We promote the development of each student by placing emphasis on personal development, self-esteem, respectful relationships and social responsibility. Our students are able to flourish in an environment where they feel valued, supported and have access to professional and confidential support when they need it.

Our team comprises:

Wellbeing Leader/counsellor– Eryn Tyler

Mental Health Practitioner – Emily Ridgwell

School Counsellor – Philippa Ziegenhardt

School Wellbeing Officer – Liz Senior

The team is available to provide counselling for students in need of support and encouragement for any challenge they are facing at school or in their life outside of school. Referrals can be made by students by emailing a team member on Compass, or speaking with their year level coordinator or head of middle/senior school, who will assist the student to connect with the team.

Aside from the day-to-day response through counselling and support, the Wellbeing team is invested in promoting positive mental health through therapeutic programs and lunchtime activities. We are committed to working collaboratively with families and members of staff in the college to ensure that our students are cared for and valued.

Below is a list of clubs we will be running this term.

We hope everybody has a fantastic year, and please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Wellbeing Wednesday:

Wellbeing Wednesday is held in the Wellbeing space. We come together and do a range of activities such as stress ball making, bracelet making, mindfulness and games. It’s a great way to connect with other students in your cohort!

Breakfast Club:

Breakfast Club runs on Friday from 8.15am in the food tech rooms. It’s an opportunity to eat some breakfast with friends, listen to some good music and check out the treats our lovely Food Tech team make. Everybody is welcome!

Study and Snack

Study and Snack is an opportunity for students to come to MYC from 3.00pm as a space to complete their homework with snacks. Staff will be there to supervise and support students

Culture Club:

Led by the International Captains, we aim to bring diverse global experiences, including food, games, and fun, to create a space where people from all cultures can learn, share, and celebrate what makes us unique.
