Year 2/3

A Fantastic Start in the 2/3 Classroom!
We have had a fabulous start to the year in the 2/3 classroom! The children have adapted to their new environment with ease, showing enthusiasm and curiosity in all areas of learning.
In mathematics, we have been exploring the place value system. It’s important for students to understand that each place in our number system is ten times larger or smaller than the one next to it. We have been working with both very large and very small numbers, using hands-on activities to deepen our understanding. One exciting activity involved using playdough to model tenths before playing games that required us to add tenths together. The students were especially intrigued by the different ways to represent quantities, particularly when totals exceeded one!
Our science lessons have taken us on an exploration of Earth’s unique characteristics that support life. We discovered the five layers of our atmosphere and used our knowledge of tints to create beautiful artworks representing this important feature of our planet. From there, we dove into the fascinating water cycle—did you know that the water we drink today is the same water that dinosaurs once drank? The children were amazed to learn that no new water is ever created!
It has been a joy to see the students engaged and excited about learning. We look forward to many more discoveries in the weeks ahead!
