Student Leaders

2024 reflections from School Council student reps Otis and Andy

2024 was a year of expanded student voice with many new leaders stepping up into roles across the student leadership team.

Changes that we have supported and experienced throughout 2024 in our time on School Council have included: new sliding doors, added shade sails, improved socialising areas and construction of new classrooms for 2025. It has been a wonderful experience to be part of the school council.

We want to congratulate Cohort 2024 for their assessments and wish them well for their future. We appreciate the confidence that you had to lead the establishment of our school community and building a positive environment for all of us.

Thank you to all Preston students for your support of us as we have sought to represent you on School Council.

Andy's Highlights

My highlights are the varied student leadership roles this year have given students the opportunity to work on projects such as Book Week, Subject Expos, Diversity Cultural Cookbook project, Sports and so much more.

Otis' Highlights

My highlight is the survey of the student community that Andy and I have established to gain insight into the student experience at Preston High School. We have been able to use this to present stronger student voice to the School Council.

A word from our new student leaders

Da Vinci

Hi everyone, I am Amelia Kaszubska and this is Xavier Riordan, and we are the Da Vinci leaders for 2025. This term there has been some exciting events including the Year 7 Lady Northcote camp and Year 8s had an English incursion. Both cohorts had lots of sport opportunities and of course the whole school swimming carnival!!

Here are some things to look forward in Term 2. In week three, Cohort 2029 will have an excursion to Ceres to learn about the future of farming as well as toolbox incursion in week five where they will explore the wonders of mental health. Cohort 2030 also has a toolbox incursion in week four and their Da Vinci expo in week five, and based on my experience it was a blast, showing my group's ingenuity to the community.

Thank you for a great Term 1 and we hope you have a restful break, we look forward to another great term!

Bandler Parks

Hi everybody, I'm Emma John and I'm Edie Jiricek. We are your Bandler Parks leaders for 2025 and we want to acknowledge all  the hard work from Cohort 2027 in the last few weeks of the NAPLAN and summative assessment period. We had an awesome start to the year with the leadership day and our camp at Summit in Gippsland!

We are so excited about what's coming up for the Year 9s in Term 2. First up we have the Morrisby Career profiling in week 2, which is a really amazing opportunity for us to learn more about ourselves and potential careers. We'll be taking a series of online tests to create a range of information about us and later in the year we'll have one-on-one sessions with trained professionals to tell us what these mean and how it could affect potential careers.

The next event we have in Term 2 is the FoodTech waves of migration excursion to the immigration museum. The Foodtech students will learn about how the culture of food in Melbourne has developed and changed over time due to immigration in Australia.

We also have altitude day in Term 2, where Bandler Parks leaders and the mentor leaders for our cohort will attend a special program to develop our leadership skills and identify ways we can have a positive impact at our school. We can't wait for these activities next term and look forward to a fantastic year!

Ada

Hi all,  here are the Ada leaders for 2025:

  • Felix Griffin & Andy Ye for Cohort 2027
  • Misha Dench, Alejandra Payne Garcia & Annalise Pingitore for Cohort 2026
  • Holly Riordan, Nicola Butler & Sylvia Grandage-Stone for Cohort 2025.

Term 1 has had many highlights including Drivers Education excursion for the Year 11s, arrival of the Year 12 jumpers, heaps of sport opportunities for all, Interschool debating, Senior Play rehearsals and the Grand Prix excursion for the VM cohort. So many great things have already happened!

A few Ada students have embarked on their China Tour. They'll be exploring China's main famous landmarks of Beijing, Xi'an and Shanghai; having the opportunity to practice their Mandarin face-to-face and viewing extraordinary landmarks - from The Great Wall, The Forbidden City to a night cruise around Shanghai. We're so excited to hear back from them soon! Getting excited about travelling overseas? Well a few of our Ada students will also get to tour around France late in Term 4.

The Year 12s have 'bounced' out of Term 1 at Bounce Heidelberg, and are ready to bounce and groove around the 2025 formal on May 9. Remember to bounce home to write into your calendars about the GAT for June 17! Frolicking alongside the fauna and flora, the year eleven geography students have been lucky enough to investigate around Mount Dandenong and the Oldina township for an excursion, exploring tourism.

If you have any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to talk with your Ada Leaders or drop a suggestion in the suggestion box or via online forms! Get excited for the Term to come!
