As part of our Year 8 Chemistry unit, students have begun exploring Chemical Reactions, starting with the difference between physical and chemical changes. To deepen their understanding, they conducted hands-on experiments investigating how heat impacts the rate of reaction, how low they could drop a substance’s temperature and how precipitates form.
The group pictured managed to create a rather unexpected mixture, cooling their solution to an impressive 6°C and producing a “snow-like” byproduct. While not quite the outcome we planned, it led to rich discussion and valuable learning – including exploring filtration techniques and understanding how pressure can influence the rate of flow during filtration.
Real science, real engagement and real learning in action!
