This term our learning will focus on:
Foundation:
Songs about people who help us in our community.
In addition students will develop their knowledge and experience of
Beat, Pitch, Dynamics and Tempo.
We will also begin to play on the xylophones and large marimbas!
Year 1/2:
Songs from Long Ago (She'll be coming round the mountain, Yellow submarine, Lil Liza Jane, Give me a home among the gum trees...)
In addition students will continue exploring Beat, Rhythm, Pitch and Melody.
Many rhythm games (such as the Fly Swat game) will be played and new songs learned on the large instruments in the Band Room.
Year 3/4:
Traditional Aussie Songs will be a highlight this term. We will explore the meaning of Waltzing Matilda, Road to Gundagai, Click go the Shears and I am Australian.
Year 3 students will begin learning to play the ukulele and year 4 students will continue to develop their skills by learning new chords and practice changing them fluently.
Knowledge of the musical staff, notes and rests will also be incorporated so that students will have some competency prior to playing the recorder (next term).
Year 5/6:
Music from Australian history will be the focus for the seniors this term. We will listen to music and songs from our indigenous heritage, songs about early settlers and then move on to current day famous Australian artists.
Ukulele skills will be incorporated in the learning of these songs as well as the opportunity to play some Bush Band instruments (lagerphones, washboards, spoons, tea-chest bass).
OPEN DAY
Please come along to hear our Junior and Senior choirs plus the Marimba Band perform at our afterschool concert on Wednesday May 14. In addition every child will have the opportunity to perform with their class if they wish to. Some will be dancing, some singing and some playing instruments. Students are asked to remain in their school uniform.
SCHOOL PRODUCTION
Mr Reiter (Producer) and I have been meeting to begin planning for our school production. This is a highlight that students look forward to every two years.
This year the title is "Lights, Camera, Action" and will be held at the Crossway Centre on Tuesday August 19 and Wednesday August 20 at 7pm each night.
Auditions will be taking place over the next few weeks so watch out for notifications from your class teachers for more details.
We are always looking for assistance with props, backdrops, costuming (sourcing or sewing), makeup, carting equipment on the day and so on. If you have any expertise or are willing to help please let your child's teacher or Mr Reiter know.
