From the Art Room

Art Room news...

Students this term have hit the ground running in the Art Room. We have been busy creating and making over the last two weeks.

Foundation students are continuing to grow their knowledge of the art element COLOUR and have introduced the new element SHAPE into their art pieces. We are looking at the artist HenrMatisse and creating colourful collages using paper and glue. We have been working hard on our fine motor skills, cutting regular and irregular shapes.

Grade 1/2 students are focusing on the colour wheel. Looking at primary and secondary colours, as well as complementy colours opposite on the colour wheel. We are creating artworks incorporating our own colour wheel disguised as an umbrella, as well as many different materials to complete our background and figure. Students are encouraged to bring small items to add to our art room colour wheel.

Grade 3/4 students have been finishing off their "Diamond and Gem" art pieces that began last term. We have been looking at the art element VALUE and creating different jewels using watercolour and bleeding techniques. We are finalising our pieces with bold black lines and white reflection highlights to make them pop.

Year 5/6 are excited to start our graffiti unit. So far we have looked at the history of graffiti and the many different forms it comes in. Students are in the process of designing their name in a style of their choice and will using paint pens to draw it on miniature fences.
