Grade Prep Report

This term, as part of our Humanities/History unit, Family and Community Celebrations, the Preps are exploring what makes each of us unique and what the word "family" means to different people.
We will discover how families and communities celebrate special events and how these celebrations help build connections between people.
We will investigate how families can be similar or different, including how First Nations Peoples view and structure their families. We will also be asking questions to find out more about our own family history and traditions and explore different types of cultural, community, and family celebrations.
This week, we looked at ‘What makes a family?’
What Makes a Family?
A family is a group of people who love and care for each other.
Families can look different, but they all do these important things:
- They help each other.
- They spend time together.
- They keep each other safe.
- They show love.
A family can be made up of:
- A mum, dad, and children
- One parent and children
- Grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins
- Two mums or two dads
- People who aren’t related but live and care for each other.
The most important thing about a family is LOVE.
