Principal's Report

Education Week

Next week Victorian schools are celebrating Education Week. The aim of the week is to celebrate all the great things that are happening in our schools. It gives parents, grandparents, and extended family the opportunity to visit their child’s classroom and see them and their classmates at work.

This year’s theme Celebration of Cultures highlights the diversity of our communities and the importance of every child feeling safe and welcome at school.

All year levels will send out invitations to families inviting them to pop in for a visit throughout the week. We hope to see lots of you visiting your child’s classroom this week.

Building Works

We were hopeful that during the Term 1 holidays we would have seen a start to the new building works. Sadly, I have returned from my leave to find out that nothing has happened.

The latest update is that the architects are waiting for the VSBA to provide the final costings before the job can go to tender. The new timeline has pushed everything back and we are now hopeful that things will start to happen at the end of this term.

Student Leaders

Today we held our first 2026 Prep Information Session. As always, our Grade 6 leaders were an integral part of the process. The students were very excited to be part of the process and did a great job. The feedback we have received from parents was glowing.

Those of you who attend the Junior or Senior School assemblies would have seen our leaders doing a wonderful job of running the assembly. The role not only involves speaking at assemblies; the students also compile all the information that they present. We are very fortunate to have such capable student leaders.

Meeting With Your Child’s Teacher

Our teachers believe it is important that they are kept updated on what is happening in their students' lives and rely on parents to keep them informed. If you have something to share with your child’s teacher you can email them via Compass, ring them before or after school, or pop in and have a chat with them after school.

Unfortunately, teachers are unable to have unscheduled meetings with parents before school. If before school is the only time you are available, please make an appointment so that the teacher can plan accordingly.

Prep 2026

We are currently in the process of running our Prep Information Sessions. If you have a child who is due to start school in 2026, could you please contact our enrolment coordinator Michelle Garvey at michelle.garvey@education.vic.gov.au

If you have any family or friends who have a child starting school and are considering Preston PS in 2026, please let them know they can book a tour. The information on how to book is on our school website.

Mother’s Day

I hope all of our mothers loved the beautiful gift and card their child made them to celebrate Mother’s Day.

Each of the year levels made different gifts for their mums. I hope all of our mums and grandmothers had an enjoyable day on Sunday.

Regards

Janet Paterson,

Principal.
