Year Six

Rosehill Transition Day

On Tuesday 29th April, the Year Sixes went to Rosehill Secondary College for their Transition Day. We were feeling a mix of excitement and curiosity as we prepared for the day; excitement for a fun day of activities and curiosity to find out what being in Year Seven would be like. There were over a thousand Year Five and Six students from all over the area to see what Rosehill had to offer. We were greeted by a former ENPS student who was there to help out, answer questions and show us around the school.

Our first activity was science - making rockets and making slime. Just like real scientists, we all wore lab coats and safety glasses. When we were making rockets we used paper, paper straw, scissors and tape. We used our completed rockets in a challenge to see which group could blow the rocket the farthest. The winning group was Sarah, Renata and Almira who all got popcorn as a prize. For the slime we used a borax solution with coloured dye all mixed together in a paper cup. We enjoyed having our own slime to play with for the rest of the day and to take home.

At recess and lunch we were all able to explore the school grounds. We went to the library and it was huge! They had games, a movie and lots of books to read. After that, we went to explore more of the classes they have. We saw lots of art classes. We looked around more and we found more classrooms but we did not know what classes they were for. The last place we went to was the basketball and volleyball courts and they had so many courts.

Bianca (6JD), Gaugy (6MP), Zara (6AI), Tae (6JD) excited for the library.
Marlo (6MP), Aria (6ZD), Edie (6MP), Renata (6MP) Shh! It’s reading time.
Sarah (6MP), Naomi (6ZD) found the most comfy seat in the school.
Aathmika (6ZD), Gordon (6JD), Nelson (6ZD), Aaron (6JD) enjoying the volleyball court.

After recess came PE. During PE we went down to the oval and we played two games. We played soccer and another game that was like netball but with no net so we called it ball. Rosehill has a pretty good sized grass soccer pitch with room enough for two classes. The PE teacher was very kind and we all felt included and had a lot of fun.

In Performing Arts we had an absolutely fantastic experience. First they did group performances and shocked everyone. We were all stunned. Their voices and skills with the drums and bass guitar were so incredible. After that, they did whole class performances with so many instruments including bass guitar, drums, piano, flute, and even trumpets. Then they did the single performances with only three people. All the performers played different jazz songs that were so catchy and amazing. They were so stunning, not one student wanted to leave. None of us were expecting it to end so soon but we all had the time of our life.

The Year Six students from Essendon North Primary School all had an excellent time. We believe that all other schools enjoyed it as much as we did (NO DOUBT). Rosehill was absolutely wonderful, full of beautiful experiences and has changed many students' minds about what to expect for high school. We are looking forward to more Transition Day experiences later in the year.
