National Reconciliation Week 2025 – Bridging Now to Next
May 27th - June 3rd, 2025
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements - and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
This year’s theme, "Bridging Now to Next", reflects the powerful connection between the past, present, and future. It reminds us that reconciliation is not a one-time event, but a journey we all take together. At a time when Australia's path toward reconciliation faces both hope and uncertainty, this theme calls on all of us to step forward with unity, strength, and purpose.
The NRW 2025 theme artwork by Kalkadoon artist Bree Buttenshaw features native plants - symbols of regeneration and resilience after adversity - representing our collective ability to grow and renew. It is a timely reminder that reconciliation requires courage, reflection, and action.
We remember two key milestones during this week:
The 1967 Referendum (May 27th), which recognised Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Census.
The Mabo Decision (June 3rd), which legally recognised Indigenous land rights for the first time.
During Week Six, our school will be inquiring into National Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week. Students will engage in meaningful and age-appropriate learning experiences to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements.
There will be a Special School Assembly on Friday 30th May, where we will reflect on National Sorry Day, share our learning from the week, and show our commitment to reconciliation.
We look forward to coming together as a school community - to learn, to reflect, and to take action!
