Dear Boarding Parents and Guardians,

It’s been a busy start to the term for the boys who have come back recharged and enthusiastic. Many are involved with winter sport whilst others are taking part in a variety of activities available to the boarders including completing their Skipper’s Ticket, Mixed Martial Arts, Tennis, Taekwondo  and Mixed Netball. Their involvement is also on show at school where we have boys taking part in the Mock Trial competition and the Australian Science Innovators Big Science Competition which consists of a 50-minute, multiple choice online competition testing science knowledge, critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Next week is National Boarding Week. Celebrated across Australia by more than 30,000 students who reside on campus,  the theme for 2025 is, Threads of Connection which beautifully captures the spirit of our Cebula boarding community . Just like threads in a tapestry, the bonds formed between students, staff and families are what holds our community together. Each Cebula boy individually contributes  his  own unique thread—strengthening the collective fabric that fosters personal growth, lifelong friendships, and a true sense of belonging. It’s this interconnectedness that makes boarding more than just a place to live—it makes it a home. We have a full schedule of activities throughout the week which  we look forward to sharing with you in the next newsletter.

Congratulations to Kypher D (Year 11) and Merrick L (Year 9), who after a rigorous application process, were selected to be part of the  recent MADALAH Youth Leadership Group. Kypher and Merrick were amongst the 35 students selected from MADALAH partner schools across Western Australia to attend the Youth Leadership Summit camp held in Geraldton. The camp was designed to support and inspire MADALAH scholar students to further develop their leadership skills in a fun, inclusive and culturally enriching environment. Over the course of the camp, the boys took part in a variety of engaging activities, including a beach day, a cultural bike ride tour, quiz night and countless games of basketball.

Reflecting on the experience, Merrick shared,

“𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑠 𝑐𝑎𝑚𝑝 𝑡𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑚𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑖𝑛 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝑊𝑜𝑢 𝑛𝑒𝑒𝑑 𝑡𝑜 𝑚𝑒𝑒𝑡 𝑛𝑒𝑀 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑛𝑒𝑀 𝑒𝑥𝑝𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑒𝑛𝑐𝑒𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑐𝑎𝑢𝑠𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡’𝑠 ℎ𝑜𝑀 𝑀𝑒 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑀, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑊𝑜𝑢 𝑠ℎ𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑛𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑟 𝑙𝑒𝑡 𝑔𝑜 𝑜𝑓 𝑜𝑟 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑓𝑜𝑟 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑀ℎ𝑜 𝑙𝑜𝑣𝑒 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑊𝑜𝑢.”
