Student Achievements
Congratulations to the following students:
Mackenzie Thomas (Year 12), Jessie Richmond (Year 9) and Billie Richmond (Year 6), who recently returned from Queensland, where they competed in the Australian Junior Amateur at Indooroopilly Golf Club and represented Tasmania in the Australian Junior Interstate Teams Match Play Series at Brookwater Golf and Country Club. Despite Tasmania finishing sixth, the students performed exceptionally well against more experienced players: Billie secured a 10/8 win over her ACT opponent, Jessie achieved a 3/1 win over her ACT opponent and Mackenzie won 3.5 out of her six matches, including a notable victory over World Amateur ranked 259th player Amelia Harris with a 4/3 win in her final match.
All three students have also been selected to represent Tasmania in the Tasmanian Women’s State Team for the Australian Interstate Teams Match Play Series in Western Australia in early May. We wish them all the best for this event!
And in more great news, Mackenzie recenlty won the Women's Tasmanian Open Golf Tournament held at Launceston Golf Club. Mackenzie's name will now be etched on the trophy alongside many great Australian golfers.
Madison Mackey (Year 12) and Sarah Thomas (Year 11), who were selected for the Rowing Tasmania Schools Pathway Team for 2025 in the School Girls Eight. Proudly representing their home state, Madison and Sarah recently competed in Penrith, rowing against some of the best school-aged rowers in Australia. The Tasmanian Schools Pathway Eight program, initiated by Rowing Australia, provides rowers and coaches with exposure to the next level of rowing – a fantastic opportunity for participants to enhance their skills and experience. Congratulations on your success, Madison and Sarah!
Lucy McKenna (Year 12), Alice Lennon (Year 11) and Molly Verrier (Year 9), who recently showcased their talents in Venus Creative's production of A Chorus Line: Teen Edition. The show performed at the Playhouse Theatre on 26– 27 April. Congratulations to these budding theatre stars. We look forward to following your journey in the limelight.
Mia Styles and Estelle Leary (Year 8), who recently represented Tasmania in the Australia Youth Water Polo Championships 14&U division, where they secured a silver medal after a hard-fought Gold Medal Match, finishing 9–6. Mia was the tournament's leading goal-scorer with an impressive 37 goals. Playing centre back, Estelle stood out as one of the stronger defensive players, successfully repelling various attacks, even when outnumbered, and contributing offensively by scoring five goals throughout the week. Fantastic effort, Mia and Estelle!
Mackenzie Graves (Year 11) and Ruby Clark (Year 10), who represented Tasmania at the 17 and Under National Netball Championships held in Sydney during the term break. They had an amazing tournament, with the team winning several games in the round robin. Notably, they defeated a strong Queensland team for the first time in Netball Tasmania history. Well done, Mackenzie and Ruby!
Rose Smith (Year 11), who competed in the Melbourne International Judo Open on 5–6 April. Despite having to move up to a higher weight division due to her original opponent's withdrawal, Rose performed exceptionally well and earned a silver medal, presented by Olympian Nathan Katz. Well done, Rose – you should be very proud of your achievement!
Juliette Robinson (Year 4), who was selected to represent the south of the state in the Southern Tasmania Netball Association Division 1 U11 team. This is a fantastic achievement, as these are the top-performing netballers in their age group. We are very proud of Juliette's team, who played all day and finished second on the ladder in their division. Next month, they head to Devonport to compete again. Best of luck, Juliette!
